A day in this crazy life

So last Thursday I came home, dh was not at home, I bring things in the house, the phone rang, while I'm talking I look out the kitchen window to see a man bundled in a coat and hat standing behind my house with a gun. Yeah. The day the mall killings were in the paper. I called the guy who owns that place, and he said he'd not given anyone permission to hunt there, and told me to go out and tell the guy to leave! Say what?! I opted to call the sheriff's department instead. By the time they got here, the guy was gone.

Today I came home, brought some stuff in and told dh I needed help getting the rest of the stuff out of the car, so he went out with me. I turned to say something to him at the car, and noticed a man standing next to a tree at the edge of our property! Ok, this is starting to freak me out. I motioned to dh to look, then came in the house and called the sheriff's department again. DH stayed on the porch to keep an eye on the guy, because it was about to get dark and we were afraid he'd leave again. In a few minutes dh came in and said, "He's got a gun", and went back out. I tried to call the sheriff's dept again to tell them to warn the deputy, but couldn't get through before the deputy got here.

Turns out the "man" was a 15 year old boy who lives up the road. He's a really good kid, has had a rough life, but is respectful and very sensitive. The "gun" was a bb gun, which sounds harmless enough until you realize he's the size of a grown man, and when nervous people see someone like that with a gun in their hands, bad things can happen quickly. The deputy gave him a stern talking to, the kid started home and stopped to apologize to dh about it. That's what I mean about him being a good kid. We'd heard he was living with relatives in another state, didn't even know he was back with his grandparents who live up the road from us.

I'm just glad it all ended well.

 My dirty kitchen awaits.

My heart would have been thumping both times, Dell. So glad he turned out to be a "good" kid cause too many of them are off the deep end.. And, a bb gun can kill if put in the right place.

I thought you lived in such a peaceful and safe place.. Sure hope that remains true.
