Overwhelmed Cook Needs Help

Some may find this shocking, but I’m going to say it anyways: I haven’t had a functioning oven since December of 2008. Two days before Christmas, it just stopped working. Because my husband and I were planning on remodeling the kitchen and buying new appliances, we decided to save our money and not fix the oven. Thankfully, our stovetop still worked or I don’t know what I would’ve done!

Now, quite a few months later, I have new appliances, including an oven that turns on and off and actually cooks food!

But I face a challenge. After so many months of not being able to bake much of anything, I am overwhelmed by the numerous foods I could prepare. Should I make a quiche? How ‘bout lasagna? What about a roast? Or a delicious fruit pie? There are so many possibilities!

I’m hoping you can help me narrow down the options of what our first oven-made meal should be by answering this question: If you had to go 7 months without an oven, what dish would you miss making the most?

Thank you for your help! Now go tell your oven how much you appreciate it!

I would go with a chocolate cake, without a doubt! That way, you get to christen your new appliance and check the new oven's performance and temp regulation at the same time (a lasagna wouldn't notice a five degree difference, but a cake will!)

Plus, hel-loooo!! It's chocolate cake!

I second that! Chocolate cake sounds delightful - if you aren't having company soon just bring it to work...I'm sure your coworkers would be thrilled.:-)

I also agree with the Chocolate Cake. Right before it is done baking sprinkle milk chocolate chips on top & stick it back into the oven until "slightly" melted. No frosting is needed, just a fork = enjoy!
