The Saga Continues

Well, the third time ought to be a charm!!They have rescheduled my surgery for May 21 and I have had my first blood draw for this round!! Am still feeling weak after 8 days have gone by. I am seriously thinking of canceling the next draw. The surgeon has told me that in 11 or so years doing this type(parathyroid) of surgery,  he has never had to do a transfusion. For those not familiar with my problem, I cannot be transfused with any blood but my own. So consequently, I have to donate my own. They want 2 pints, but I think they are only going to get one at this point. I am hoping after the surgery, I will regain some of my energy and be able to do what a normal 80 year old gal can do. lol...Right now, I am good for a couple of hrs in the a.m. and then, pretty much off my feet for the rest of the day-some days better than others, needless to say. I have a condition called hypercalcemia, too much serum calcium in my blood, due to 1 or more parathyroid glandsthat don't work. The malfunctioning glands draw calcium from my bones, so that I have osteoparoses(sp). The high calcium also saps energy and can make you feel really miserable. I have had treatments to lower the level, but now I have become allergic to that medication, so it is no longer an option-surgery is the only answer..

Anyway, I don't think spring is ever coming to Southern Oregon. We are having rain storms again today, with patchy sunshine. I guess the rain is good for my newly planted seeds in the garden..I hope...

Hallo there, friend!

just a quick hello...owuld oyu believe I just sat down on the settee with a cuppa...and next thing I woke up...I had dropped off! (I fear I may be turning into an old old hting!whatever next...what comes after dropping off in the afternoon? No, don;t tell me! It might be somehting horrible like droppoing off ...with my mouth open, or worse, hissing through my lips!)

sorry to hear it is making you tired, somehting just occured to me, and tell me not to push my nose in and be a know-all..but if they are having such a job to get some blood from you, do you think it might be down to your diet>?  Are you eating your bit of nice red meat, and some really dark leafy veggies? and eggs...also, some of the half-fat milks are enriched with something or other...and cheeses? all the htings that are supposed to be good for your blood and for iron? but as I am writing this, I am thinking that you probably already know what to eat that is best for you....

we have been away in gibraltar for a long weekend, to visit our middle son and his lovely wife, and we popped over to Spain for the weekend with them to see their new house...very nice!they bought it in the state of an old wreck and have worked on it for months now, every weekend...he is the one that is the most like my family...and we are so alike, both Geminis (had him the day before my birthday) and whilst we are close, he drives me potty at times...I love him, but we can get each other going...he has such a stubborn streak in him, that he gets from Jeff, het sets himself a challenge and he will then follow it through come what may...whereas I see a challenge, and look the other way!!!

anyway, Toni..this won't get the dinner on, will it?  Tonight, the grown-ups will have white fish, fillets in the oven with lots of lemon juice, and sweet potatoes, spinach, and lots of colourful mixed veg...oh how sensible and boring at times,. but we had so much lovely vino and food  in Spain, we must get back on track!(weellll, Im ust get back on track, which means so will Jeff!)

chat to you later, Toni....pouring with rain here...

Hi Mirry-well , I think I am eating properly. I am also taking extra iron and vit. D and the B's, of course. We make fruit smoothies also with  an added fortified drink (Ensure) that the Dr. recommended.  I am feeling better the last couple of days, so will go ahead with the second blood draw on Monday.

Have the family staying with you made any progress in finding a new home? Will it be in your area? What is the Son's profession. I know they were in Las Vegas for some time. If you mentioned it before, I guess I don't remember...Toni
