Blue-ribbon menu and memories

Ahhhhh, summer in Wisconsin! In our state, we look forward to cream puffs, corndogs, funnel cakes, chocolate-covered bacon on a stick and all the foods that you’ll only find at the state fair all year long. My very favorite would have to be the cream puffs—and I’ve included the original recipe here for you to try.

State Fair Cream Puffs Recipe

From live stock auctions to tractor pulls, baking contests and pig races, our state fair—most likely like yours—offers something for everyone. As a little girl, the one souvenir I always wanted to take home was a hat with my name printed in glitter. It’s nice to see that vendors still sell those hats, but I couldn’t find anyone who would put a name on in glitter!

Do you have a special state fair food or memory you’d like to share? I’d love to hear from you!

I have not lived in Wisconsin for about 20 years, but I do have MANY childhood memories of the fair.  One year, when I was about 6, my babysitter took me to the fair and LOST ME.  Luckily, I lived only a few blocks from the fairgrounds, and a neighbor found me and walked me home.  Another memory is the year that I ate SO many cream puffs that I could not eat anything with whipped cream in it for at least 5 years!  Luckily, the whipped cream aversion has passed!  That is why I am very thankful for the State Fair Cream Puff recipe you have included in this blog!  Although I still live far from the fairgrounds in good old West Allis, I can now make these at home and share them with my family!

Thank you, Marilyn!

I'm thrilled to get that cream puff recipe, Marilyn! Tell me where to get those hats and I'll glitter one for you myself! Growing up in Milwaukee, it just wasn't really summer til you tucked at least one of those mouthwatering state fair treats under your belt...I really am going to try that recipe.  Thanks, Marilyn!
