The Gift That Keeps on Giving

I love to bake. What I don’t love is being faced with an entire cake, pie or batch of cookies when I’m done. Don’t get me wrong, I have an insatiable sweet tooth, so it’s not the foods themselves I have fault with. It’s the fact I’m a single gal, and my figure can only handle so much deliciousness.

So when Christmas rolled around last year, I decided to turn my love of baking into a recurring gift for my parents. On Christmas morning, I gave them a tin of Coconut Raspberry Bars with a note tucked inside that read: “Welcome to the Dessert-of-the-Month Club! For the next year, you will receive one delectable dessert at the beginning of each month.”

I can’t tell you how much fun I’ve had baking for my parents this year. Based on their feedback (i.e., their ability to devour each dessert over the course of a few days), I’d say each dessert has been a success, and I owe it all to our scrumptious Taste of Home recipes.

Below you’ll find a list of all the desserts I’ve made through September. With three months to go before the end of the year, I’m still looking for ideas. Which recipes are your favorite desserts? I’d love to share them with my parents!

January: Coconut Raspberry Bars

February: Hot Fudge Pudding Cake (subscriber-only recipe)

March: Apple Pie

April: Lemon Yogurt Bread

May: Berry Cheese Torte (subscriber-only recipe)

June: Coconut Cream Angel Pie (subscriber-only recipe)

July: Banana Sundae Dessert

August: Cindy’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

September: Pina Colada Cheesecake (subscriber-only recipe)

That is such a great idea. It is a great way for families to turn to do things on a monthly basis for gifts at holidays, also to do for seniors in our family as well as friends.  It lets us keep in touch and remember those we care about every month, and gives them something to look forward to besides the bills!!

That's an awesome idea, Kristen! And those desserts look the same. Did you ever ask them what their favorite desserts were when they were kids...and make those? You might get some great recipes that way, too.
