I just made a batch of white icing and as soon as I added my orange food coloring, it turned "grainy" looking. The icing was fine before I added the food coloring - it's the regular liquid food coloring and not the gel kind. I made the icing like I always do, cream butter and confectioners sugar, then I added some whipping cream. I will say that I don't usually add food coloring to frosting, but I was making these Halloween brownies for my husband to take to work. I'm actually thinking about dumping the icing and just sending the plain brownies. Has anybody had this happen, and was there any fix to it? I really would like to use the frosting. I wish I had cream cheese, but don't really want to make a special trip to the store just for that. Thanks

Not meaning to insult or to insinuate anything, but how long have you had that package of food coloring? The one time I had a similar experience, I realized that the product had been on my shelf for several years.... and the particles had separated, resulting in what you called a grainy look. Nothing I know of can be done to correct it, other than to toss out that product and get new. Sorry, wish I could provide a magic answer for you.
