Does anyone know if you can buy plain marzipan (not molded, flavored, chocolate covered, etc.) If so, where in the US?

Every grocery store in my area carries it. It's in the baking aisle.

Odense is one brand. They have both marzipan and almond paste. Which are similar, but not identical products (although I've used them interchangeably in recipes). The Odense comes in a plastic tube, that is packaged in a cardboard box.

I would buy almond paste from "Diamond"
nut company in bulk (like 5 lbs). It is much cheaper, you can cut, wrap and frreze in smaller packages. It may not look as good as Marzipan because it is not white but more yellow, yet it is equally good.

Safeway sells it all the time. It's more visible Nov-Dec but you just need to ask in the bakery section.

Hi....Was fascinated by your marzipan question. I am looking for marzipan cookie recipes. Do you have any? Marzipan candy would be also good. Thanks

Did you ever make your own marzipan? It's easy. Ground almonds, icing sugar (to taste), almond extract and water. use a food processor.

Thanks to all who replied. I have only been able to find almond paste in my grocery store. To Samosa, unfortunately, I do not have marzipan cookie or candy recipes. I found a recipe for a pie that called for marzipan in a crumb topping. I had never even heard of marzipan. With a name so interesting, I went on the hunt to find out what it was. Thanks again.

if you're just using it for a pie crust ingredient, by all means, go ahead and substitute almond paste, you'll be fine.

Definitely--if it's just going into a crumb topping, you can certainly use almond paste if that's all you can find. It will work out just fine for you.
