  • Low-fat butter?

Today's "Countdown to Christmas" cookie recipe calls for low-fat butter - can someone tell me of a brand name to look for?  Is it like the whipped butter in tubs?

Now that is a good one.

    Low fat butter????

There is no such thing unless they mix margarine with butter because butter should be almost 100% fat except for a small amount of water and milk solids (and a little salt in salted butter)

I just today asked one of my DD if there was "reduced-fat butter" on the market.  She always seems to know about such things.  She said YES "the butter" when you melt it it is watery. In was in response to a Cookie recipe "Swirled Mint Cookies". Her son-in-law has just found out he is diabetic and I was looking for recipes that would be okay when I comes here to visit (especially for the holidays).  I do not know how it can be reduced "as I was raised on a farm" and butter was "butter".

Lower-fat butter or margarine has a high water content & will not bake in traditional recipes well.  There are sticks & also tubs of reduced calorie spreads...I'd double check the recipe & make sure it's formulated to work with the recipe.  I believe some people whip butter with a mixer to incorporate more air (maybe they add in water or something else to increase the volume?) just to make real butter go further.

If the "low fat" butter has much water in it they should be honest and call it: watery butter.

Since I do not want to gain back some weight I lost I am VERY careful and just use less butter by spreadig it very thin IF I use it at all.

People CAN practice and use self control, 'then they would not have to pay a high price for watered down "low fat" butterConfused

Lynn, yes the recipe called for half butter, softened and half reduced-fat butter, softened. That shocked me because I wasn't aware of reduced-fat butter plus it is probably higher priced because they have to add water. LOL

Grelo, I am with you about spreading butter thinner.

Margarine has the same fat content as butter, so mixing margarine with butter won't reduce the fat.
