  • Just curious....what kind of pan do you cook meatloaf in?
We had meatloaf for lunch and for some reason it occured to me that since I cooked it in a round casserole dish, it wasn't, technically, a meat "loaf". I've just never really liked cooking meatloaf in a loaf pan. Sometimes I use a square dish and sometimes I make mini-loaves on a broiling pan but never in a loaf pan.

    How do you make meatloaf?

    Just curious.

I either use a loaf pan, or shape it into a loaf and bake in a shallow pan.

Usually a rectangular cake pan, or a pie plate, or a square pan. It depends on how large a meatloaf I make. It is rarely in a loaf pan.

a meatloaf pain with a rack in the bottom so grease can drain off.

I bake it in whatever takes my fancy ( or is clean) at the moment. Most of the time it is a small covered roaster or casserole. I don't like to use a loaf pan, I don't like that the grease is still in the pan etc.

I use a loaf pan. I line the bottom with sliced white bread and it absorbs the grease. When the meatloaf is done and you invert it on to the cutting board, the bread is now on top and you just peel it off and throw it away.

I don't make meatloaf often enough to justify a meatloaf pan (with the rack in the bottom).

I keep thinking I'm going to freehand one and bake it on a rack, but I'm afraid it would end up looking like a giant, misshapen hamburger patty! LOL!

    I make mine in an 8x8 pan. It's a one-pound hamburger recipe.

I like the idea of a special pan with a rack though...gotta check that out.

I use a glass oblong Pyrex baking dish, either 9 by 13 or 8 by 11 - just spray it with no-stick spray, then shape it into sort of a round loaf shape in middle of dish.

I don't make them very often, but I have used a pyrex loaf pan and also an oval casserole pan. A few times I've made them in my crockpot.
