Hi! I have a devotion to share written by Greg Laurie in Our Journey A Daily Walk in the Word.

    THE SMART THING TO DO

Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, And having be set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. --Romans 6:16-18

Whose slave are you? Maybe you believe that you are your own person, the master of your own destiny. But in reality, each of us yields or gives ourselves to someone or something. We are all slaves of someone or something.

I want to be a slave of God. The apostle Paul wrote to believers, “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life (Romans 6:22).

This word “slave” was translated from a Greek word that would have been readily understood in that culture. It referred to a slave who had been bought off the auction block and was then granted freedom. In other words, the master would purchase that slave and then set him or her free.

Slaves who were so thankful to their masters for such a compassionate gesture and wanted to voluntarily serve them would be designated as a “bondslave,” meaning a slave by choice. The grateful slave was not a slave for pay or a slave out of fear, but a slave by choice—a loving servant.

That is what Paul said he was, and that is also what we ought to be.

Whose slave are you? You're either a slave of God or a slave of sin. The choice is up to you. You can either yield to sin and pay the price and lived a miserable life, or you can yield to God—giving Him your gifts, time and future—and live life to its fullest. It's the smart thing to do.

    Journal:

What does it mean to be a slave of God?

What choices can I make to show that I am a slave of God and not a slave of sin?

What distracts me from a total commitment to Jesus Christ?

    Prayer:

Lord Jesus, help me to follow You with my whole heart—without compromise. I want to live my life in such a way that people see that I am Yours. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in You sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Amen.

Back from our visit. As we traveled home, we took a rural route and saw from a distance fireworks going on in several towns. I enjoy it that way better...away from the crowds and bugs and traffic.

Have a good night everyone! I guess tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter than today. I can not imagine how that is possible!

Wonderful lesson, Deb!  I want to be God's slave, too.  Never want to go back to living for the devil!!!

I know what you mean about the temps.  Ours today was another record breaker and supposed to be worse tomorrow.  But looking forward to next week when we're supposed to drop back into the 90s.  Praying we get some rain some time soon, too.

Patty, praying for you, Honey!  I'm so sorry that you hurt like that!  Praying for Kenneth, too!

Randy, my brother used to go to dialysis on holidays, too.  Praying for Tom and you!

Chris, sounds like you had a good meal!  Yum!  We didn't do anything special.  Watched the celebrations/fireworks on KET and then  NBC.

I've been hearing fireworks going off in our neighborhood but they aren't supposed to.  Due to the extremely dry conditions, they have been prohibited.  But some people don't think or care.  :(

Mari, glad to see you back!  :)  I sometimes forget to come here or go to fb, too.

Lu, we got some thunder this afternoon, too, but the rain went around us--again!  Hope you got some good rain?

Now who am I missing?  My brain is mush. :(

Well, anyway, praying for you all!   Sending hugs!

    God Bless!  Nite!

    Good Morning Everyone,

We had some nasty storms last night.  We lost power just as I finished up my post on here last evening.   We had high winds, hail, and heavy rain.  We really need the rain, just not the storms.    Thankfully, the storms caused the temp to drop 20 degrees, so it got cooler.  We had no damage to house, property, or truck, Thank God!!!   We just had some limbs come down.

I'll catch up on the posts after work.   I'll be holding all of you in my prayers as I go through this day.

    Hugs & Love to All,

    Lu
