motherofdogsMy crockpot is the older style Rival, which doesn't cook at a very high temperature, like the new ones do.
You're very lucky! Mine cooks so darn hot, it's crazy!

I partially cook the potatoes in the microwave while preheating oven to high temp. Take potatoes out of microwave, rub with oil, season with salt and place in oven until easily pierced with knife and skin is crusty. Yum!

If you just want a plain baked potato without the seasonings, you don't need to use foil on them in the crock pot at all! Just grease each one, poke, and put in the crock pot for about 6 hours on low (depending on how many- check each one to see if it's cooked all the way). They won't be "crusty", but if you don't care how the skin is, use this method when it's hot out! Easier on the money than any other method!

Well, I won't use Pam or other spray oils and so I will ask again, do you have to put oil on them and if so, why?
No, I've baked potatoes without oiling them. But I've also used olive oil, canola oil and vegetable oil and then salted them. I'm sure there's a "real" reason for oiling them, but for me, it's so the salt sticks.
I oil them simply because I don't like the 'crusty' skin.

Oh, okay. Thanks.
whiteflower_pa Oh, okay. Thanks.
I have never oiled potatoes either and was wondering why so many people do. I let everyone season their own -- no extra salt added my me.
