In early June I posted that I'd gone to the mall to meet a friend and had the catalytic converter stolen off my Honda Element.
Well.........yesterday it happened again. It wasn't at the mall this time, though. It was at the grocery store.
This is just out of control.
how long does it take to take one off a car???? and I guess people passing by just pass on by when they see someone under a car?????
I am sorry....and yes the things people are stealing....here for awhile it was the brass flower holders at cemeteries....hundreds of them...finally they caught the creep stealing them....a scrap metal BUYER.....
It's not how you start, it's how you end....so end strong!!
Walk yourself strong!!
It takes about a minute. They use a battery powered Sawz All. If there is a space open next to the vehicle they pull in, get out, lie down, cut it off and leave.
I parked as close to the front as possible and next to the cart return so they must have parked nearby, cut it off and left.
They will pull the video on Monday for the police. It was again in broad daylight on a Saturday.
What in the world? You're right...just out of control.
You should get a cage for it. They are cheap and work well. Has your mechanic mentioned any type of anti- theft device?
Twice? Something I've only heard of as an urban legend has happened to you twice???!!!Seriously, gal, have you woken up in a bathtub full of ice with your kidney's missing?(Real bummer. I hope you can find a way to prevent it.)
A lot of this is folk memories and cultural hangovers.

You might have heard it's only an urban legend but in this case you've heard wrong. Very wrong! Sorry.

Twice and I am sorry it has happened to you. We work to pay for our property and some thief comes and takes it in minutes. Someone mentioned a "cage" and hope it can work.

ReneeC___NCalifWiddle, you know I didn't refer to this as a urban legend....don't you??
Renee, yes I do know it was LadyFingers and not you!
I thought I quoted her. Sorry. Like my dear old Mom used to say, "You know what happened to Thought, right? He Thought he had to pass wind and he did poo-poo in his pants!"
Well, that's not exactly what she said but you get the picture.
Again, I'm sorry I messed up like that.
I am so sorry you've had this happen again, I can't even imagine how upset I'd be in your shoes! The local Honda dealer here had them stolen from every Element on the lot a couple years ago, but at least that was overnight. In the light of day people are pretty bold & stupid!
Have you checked with the dealer to see if there's anything to do to it to prevent theft? I noticed someone else mentioned some kind of cage. Definitely worth checking into at this rate!
OMG - that's awful!

Jasper & CI---somewhere along the way I read or heard there's a cage that can be installed over or around the converter. I'm not a mechanic and I also have no idea what the expense is either.
No need to apologize Widdle. I just wanted to make sure you knew, what I knew and what I said I knew and not something that someone else said.......LOL
Thanks everyone for the empathy.....omg it's just SO aggravating! Also thank you for the heads up on the cage. My husband ordered one online and we're having the mechanic put it on.
If they cut through that then we're selling the truck. We don't want to sell it but that's what's going to happen.
Ladyfingers -- No urban legend. A week after ours was stolen the first time a couple was caught in the act of stealing one in an area about 10 miles from where mine was stolen.
In their trunk was 12 of them and 11 were from Honda Elements. We're betting one was ours.
