  • I'd love any good Turkey neck & gizzard recipe ideas!................
My Husband got a Turkey from work-
It is in the oven NOW. I am cooking the neck & gizzards on top of the stove in water. What else should I do?
    (Make soup?)...
    Thanks for any ideas!!!!!

the only thing I've ever done is boil them, clean the neck meat off, and chop them up fine for the stuffing.

I boil them, use most of the broth to moisten the stuffing and give the rest of the broth and the giblets to the kitties.

I usually do throw them out!
But I told my Husband I bet the Pioneers ate them! He said he didn't think they threw anything away-
I just wanted to try somthing new!
(I already have the stuffing in the bird cooking...Can I add a little of this other meat after it is done?)
I could try it in a Small bowl of stuffing- in case we don't like it!
    Thanks!

I used to chop them and throw them in the stuffing, but my kids hated that. The kitties thank them!

When making the turkey I usually add 2 cans of chicken broth to the pan and then add the neck to the broth for a very rich gravy. After the turkey is cooked I take the meat off the neck and add to the gravy for more taste. You can do the same with the gizzard.

I have found one recipe for gizzards but have not tried it yet.

    Chicken Gizzards (for crock pot)
    1 lb gizzards
1 can cream of mushroom soup
    1/2 can of water.

Roll gizzards in flour and fry until brown.
Place in crockpot, Add salt and pepper
    Stir in soup and water
Cover & cook on low for 8 hours.
    Freezes well.

I do not know if this recipe was posted here or if it originated out of a magazine.

Sorry, I'd love to add cream of mushroom soup, but I have a daughter who despises mushrooms!
    Thanks, Grandma!

    Thanks for your help Everyone!
Someone sent me this from Recipes!
    It looks good!

    Dar says :---
"I simply quarter an onion, put those (inside celery) leafy stalks/ribs in the same water as your neck/giblets/liver, etc. + some chicken bouillon cubes & simmer while the turkey is roasting. When the Turkey needs basting I use this "flavored" juice to baste the bird until it emits its' own juice.
When the bird is done I get rid of the onion & celery, I finely dice up the giblets & neck meat & put in my gravy!
Been making Giblet Gravy for many years! Yummy & nothing is wasted!
    Dar---

    Thanks again!!!

When we had bigger dogs I'd cook them up, chop them a little smaller and give them to the dogs, including some broth....they loved it!!

We always took the heart and gizzard (we would buy extras).. put them in the crock pot with onions and celery and beef broth. When done we thickened the juice for gravy and served it over rice...

Okay how about something a little different? How about cooking the neck and removing the meat and adding it to some rice and seasoning. I would think it would make a really good "Dirty Rice" recipe. Being that I love cajun cuisine and I love dirty rice I thought turkey would work great in it. It would make a great side dish to the turkey as well.
