OK now that I know the difference between hash browns and homefries, I need a recipe for a casserole using frozen hashbrowns. Can anyone help?
Hi Doodle, I have a simple but tasty recipe.
2# bag of frozen has browns, I use the Southern Style hasbrowns, they are small squares of potatoes rather than the shredded ones. Thaw bag in refrigerator overnight.
2 cans Cream of Potato Soup
1 can Cream of Celery Soup
1 can Chedder Cheese Soup
1 onion(small) chopped.
Mix together. Bake in casserole dish 1 hr or longer at 350 degrees.
Doesn't sound real good and not real colorful but very, very tasty. My Mom used to make it all the time.
The best and easiest one I know is for Nindsy's Potatoes. Just two ingredients - a bag of hash brown potatoes (she prefers Mr. Dell's) and two cups of heavy cream. Lay the potatoes in a cake pan - 9x13 or 7x11 - then pour the cream over. Salt and pepper the top. Bake at 350 for about an hour. These are absolutely fabulous.

32 oz hashbrowns or southern style-thawed
1 Cup sour cream
1 Cup shredded chedder
1 can mushroom soup or celery or chicken
1/2 c milk
salt and pepper to taste
I mix the last 5 ingredients together, pour over potatoes, stir and put into crock pot and bake on low for 4-5 hrs(depending on the crockpot). This can be put into a casserole dish and cooked at 350 for about 45 min. Toni
Creamy Hash Brown Bake
1 tbsp hard margarine ( or butter)
1/2 cup chopped onion
10 oz can cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup milk
4 oz ( 125 ml) block of cream cheese, softened and cut up
1/4 tsp dried thyme
pinch of salt
1/4 tsp pepper
2 1/4 lbs (1 kg) package of frozen hash brown potatoes, partially thawed
1 cup grated medium Cheddar cheese
Melt margarine in large pot on medium. Add onion. Cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring often, until softened.
Add soup and milk. Stir. Add next 4 ingredients. Heat and stir for 3-4 minutes until cream cheese is melted.
Add hash browns. Stir until coated. Spread evenly in greased 2 qt ( 2 L) casserole. Cover. Bake at 350°F ( 175°C) oven for about 1 hour until edges start to brown. Remove from oven
Sprinkle with Cheddar cheese. Bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until cheese is melted.
