In a saucepan with a little water and heat until hot.
I think the closest taste to grilled is to put the hotdogs on a broiler pan and broil them in the oven. My toaster oven works great for this. You'll need to watch them fairly closely and roll them over halfway through cooking. The outside will be a toasty brown. My family prefers this method over boiling them.
Well - I boiled them in a little water, drained the water & browned them in some butter. I will try OBB's method though, I forgot about my toaster oven option.
I like to start them in a skillet with about 1/2 cup water. Cook on med-high until the water is nearly evaporated completely. The add a pat of butter and those hot dogs will get nice and bubbly brown and delicious!
If you have a gas stove just stick it on a fork and cook directly over the burner!
You can also use a griddle or regular fry pan, heat it up dry, put on your dog, toss on some ice cubes and put a lid right over the dog. If you're using a fry pan use a smaller lid so you can get right over the dog. Yummy!

I'll have to give that a try next time.
I usually broil them too. Sometimes I'll use my grill pan.
