On New Year's Eve at midnight, we sweep out the old year with a new broom.  Others traditions include being the first to say "Jack Rabbit" (suppose to bring financial benefits), eating black eyed peas.  Any other customs, traditions?

I always greet the New Year holding a penny in my hand and also have a snack of pickled herring...the first for financial security for the year, and the second for general good luck. I would make pork roast and sauerkraut for New Year's day dinner  when I still had family living with me - also supposed to bring luck . Now I just make a couple of pork chops with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes.
