It's not how you start, it's how you end....so end strong!!
Walk yourself strong!!
Okay, thanks.
Silence can never be misquoted.
I can certainly understand the reasoning behind this but it will also cut down on a ton of recipes being posted, huh ?? Bet many, many people won't bother going to all that trouble...they'll just chuck the idea of posting a recipe.
Marilyn
So let me see if I got this right, if you use a link and post it here that is not from a TOH site it is not just enough to site where it is from you have to obtain written permission, correct?
Maybe so Marilyn, but I also remember a time when people complained because 99% of the recipes posted over on the recipe board (as well as the individual courses like appetizers, bread, desserts, holiday recipes) were just copied and pasted from somewhere on the internet, without the poster having made it herself. Many people said they preferred a tried and true recipe from the members as opposed to something someone just found on the web, but copying and pasting for the sake of posting "something" won out over the requests for mostly tried and true.
Some of the early recipes posted often said something to the effect of "I thought this sounded interesting." Most didn't even bother saying they wanted to try the recipe they posted. Some were so off the wall or time consuming no one would have tried it, but it was on the web and they didn't have to bother typing it so they posted it. I swear it was as if there was an unspoken contest to see who could post the most recipes in a day.I'm not pointing fingers by any means, I'm just as guilty as the next person. As a new computer user and recipe/cookbook addict I got caught up in too. I think a lot of people do, especially when it's a new site for them and they want to make new friends. But over the years I've also become more selective about which recipes I want to save. I probably still save more than I should, definitely more than I'll ever use but I no longer post a recipe just because I can.

Links can be posted without permission.
Copying and pasting content and images from another site without permission can be an issue based on that person or sites copyright policy. You really have to read their policy to know what they allow you to share.
Ugh.....I foresee a LOT of RickRolling in the future if we blindly click on links provided by tricksy little hobbitses posters.....
Is there going to be recipe/picture nazi police to inspect each and every recipe and picture? Half the fun of sharing a recipe is to tempt you with a picture of what it's supposed to look like and then put the link to the recipe IN the picture. Hmmmmm....this is going to be fun I just know it will.
Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

You're looking at her
I agree that the temptation is in the picture and if you read the copyright policies, some of them allow you to share just the image with a link.
It's not just recipes and food pics they're clamping down on. I might be wrong, but I think the copyright issue pertains to all photos. So if CakeWrecks has a picture you want to show, you have to post the link, not the picture. Newstories on CNN, the 28 ways to cool down with cucumber story on Huffington post, AFI's top 100 Movie Quotes and so on all fall under the copyright infringement rules. All those have to be linked to not copied and pasted. But I'm not sure about Youtube videos.
Edited to add: You can paraphrase and post a synopsis and then the link to help readers know what they're going to click on as opposed to just posting the link inside the thread.
_FOOTSIESo if CakeWrecks has a picture you want to show, you have to post the link, not the picture.
I can't actually find CakeWreck's policy on sharing, they allow you to share on Facebook, Google+ and others. Your best bet is to find the copyright policy for the site you want to share and follow their terms.
Youtube provides you with a link to share on forums, so I'm assuming that they allow sharing.
this is really dumb. i think that they want to just get rid of the forums all together. do they really think that people who sent in recipes to taste of home don't do the same copy and paste thing? they do all the time. and under copyright laws, if you change the recipe wording, it is a new recipe.
shortbreadloveri think that they want to just get rid of the forums all together.
No shortbread - they do not wish to just get rid of the forums altogether. They DO wish to avoid a copyright infringement penalty.
A while back a poster said something about contacting a lady that had printed a cookbook or was on tv and had the 7-up pound cake recipe in it. She want to post it here, she said the lady called her about it. Well, that recipe is older that God so that really wasn't any infringement at all.
