The recipe I have says seven to nine hours, but that seems really long for such a small roast. Any ideas?

I'd say 7 to 9 on low is fine.... The crockpot books I have say that no matter what with roasts you can't burn them in a crockpot -- so no harm can come.

I've cooked roasts for up to 12 hours...

    I think it'll be fine.

I think it depends on the type of roast. Some cuts (such as chuck roast) do best with longer cooking times, while leaner cuts are moister with shorter times. In general, with a two pounder, I would think 6-7 hours is sufficient.
