I've had mine for quite some time. I'll check the expiration date on it, but is the shelf life increased when it's in the fridge? Any thoughts?

If it smells "off", not fresh and possibly rancid, then it's time to toss it. Due to the wheat germ oil in wheat germ, it's really best to freeze it and use it quickly after it is open, rather than refrigerate it. The oil quickly becomes a trans fatty acid (bad fat) and you defeat the purpose of the "health" food. Oils that are rancid don't always smell rancid. When it gets to the point where you can smell it's rancid, then it's been that way for a long time and the healthy benefit is long gone.
