    Hi Kathleen!

I use Jonathan in my pies, they are excellent!

Also excellent for pies that I have found are: Cortland, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, & Rome.

I am sure there are others, but those are the T & T!

    Have fun baking!

Jonathans are good for juice, pies and tarts, apple crisps and cakes. And of course eating.
    Good luck with your baking.

My favorite apples for pie are Empire... Emeril once said that and I tried them and they are yummy in pie.. They are not easy to find..
I also like delicious apples... not one you think of for pie but try them they are good....
I can smell the pies baking right now......

Jonathans are the best pie apple! They get soft, but don't break down completely, so they retain some shape. I also use them when making apple sauce, and like to combine them with Cortland or MacIntosh which break down completely. Then the sauce has some smooth and some chunkiness, too.
