  • Substitute for powdered milk in bread machine bread?
I'd like to make a loaf of plain ol' white bread for dinner but my recipe calls for 2Tbs dry milk poder. Does anyone have a substitute the powdered milk? Or perhaps a different recipe that doesn't use it?

    Appreciate your help.

use 1/2 milk in place of water or other liquid....1/3 cup dry milk powder and 2/3 cup water make up one cup of milk....

It's not how you start, it's how you end....so end strong!!

You can just leave it out if you don't have it. It won't hurt anything.

That's such a little bit of milk that you won't even notice a difference, I imagine.

Dry milk is used in bread recipes because it's such a convenience. If you use regular (refrigerated milk), it has to be scalded and cooled before using it to deactivate the enzymes it contains that will react adversely with your dough.

Thanks for the responses. I was going to use the regular milk, but didn't know about the scalding part. Glad you shared that. I think I will just leave it out and see what happens.

    Thanks again.

I never put in the dry milk anymore, I like the texture better without it.
