Rev. World's Best Potato Soup-Wardie's
I made half the recipe for my family although I might have to make a full batch next time. This is the best potato soup I have ever eaten. Karen, you are an angel for sharing it.
For half the recipe, I used 2 Tbsp. Polish sausage seasoning which I found out is the same as kielbasa seasoning.
Half the recipe filled my 4-qt. crockpot to the rim. It also took much less time to cook, so you might want to try it on low heat instead of both high and low.

WARDIE’S POTATO SOUP
6-7 lbs. of potatoes
1 qt. heavy cream
1 qt. half & half
1 (16 oz. container sour cream)
3-4 tbsp. mayonnaise
2 tbsp. Gulden’s Spicy Brown Mustard
1 lg. onion
1 lg. green pepper
1 lb. Canadian bacon
1 lb. ham steak
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
6-10 tbsp. kielbasa spice
¾ cup grated parmesan cheese
potato flakes
(1) Peel and cube enough potatoes to fill your crockpot, leaving only enough room for the other ingredients to added (the potatoes will shrink as they cook).
(2) Add the heavy cream, half & half, sour cream, mayonnaise, Gulden’s Spicy Brown Mustard, onion, green pepper, salt and pepper.
(3) Cube the Canadian bacon and ham steak and add it to the crockpot.
(4) Stir well and cook on high for 4-5 hours, stirring occasionally.
(5) Add the grated parmesan cheese, ½ cup of potato flakes and kielbasa seasoning and cook for 2-3 more hours, or until the potatoes are cooked through; stirring occasionally.
* * * NOTE: (1) If the soup is too watery, add more potato flakes to thicken it up.
None of the measurements are exact, adjust to your liking.

It calls for Canadian bacon and also ham. I thought ham was Canadian bacon LOL I am Canadian but I need someone from the U.S. to tell what Canadian bacon looks like.

RE: Rev. World's Best Potato Soup-Wardie's
Here's some info I found online Penny:
Canadian bacon, referred to as back bacon in Canada, is a certain cut of lean meat taken from the back of a pig.
In the United States, the meat commonly known as Canadian bacon is simply a lean cut of back bacon, closely resembling ham in flavour and appearance. In a matter of fact, Canadian bacon is ham, often being called such by those employed by restaurants such as Little Caesars, Pizza Hut, and many other local and franchise pizzerias. In Canada it is traditionally unsmoked back bacon that has been sweet pickle cured and coated in yellow cornmeal. This variation is also known as peameal bacon, because in times past a mixture of ground yellow peas was used for coating to improve curing and shelf-life.

Thank you so much chowgirlmom. This has always been a mystery to me LOL. Great information....I will just use our peameal bacon now whenever I see that in a recipe. Thanks again.

CHEFLY, thank you so much for the review. I can't wait to tell him how much you liked it. I think it is the best ever, but I might be a bit prejudiced as he is my best friend (outside of my family; my daughter is my VERY best friend and my mom and my sister.
I'm so glad you tried it and liked it.
Thanks again for the review. Like I said, he will be as thrilled as I was when I read it. It may not be my recipe, but I did post it, so I get some credit. Also, I had to come up with a recipe since he doesn't measure anything.

This looks good, and I would like to try the recipe. I have never heard of kielbasa spice. Please help me out by telling me where I could purchase this spice.

Gloria:
Kielbasa spice is used in smokehouses to make Kielbasa. My friend added it as an afterthought one day. But I bought mine at www.spicesetc.com since I couldn't find it anywhere near me.
Have a great night!

RE: Rev. World's Best Potato Soup-Wardie's
Gloria, I bought mine at an Italian market where they sell lots of spices. My local grocery store also makes their own sausage and I asked what the difference was between Polish sausage seasoning and Kielbasa seasoning and was told it was the same thing, so you can use whichever you find. If you have a store that sells homemade sausage they might sell or give you a few tablespoons of it. It wouldn't hurt to ask (at least for the first time you make the soup.)
Karen, give your friend a big hug for me for giving you the ingredients for this soup. This is now my favorite potato soup recipe.
