I make my kids b-day cakes. Need to make one that is maroon.(a MN Gophers baseball hat). Any help with what colors to mix to get a good maroon. I use the Wilton colors. Otherwise, do you know of someplace with a good guide or chart for this. Couldn't find one on Wilton.com. Thanks for the help!

OK, I think I found something. It said 4 parts red-red to 2 parts burgundy. How does this sound? Also, since the whole hat is maroon, would I be better off to use no-taste? I have read that that is too thin and not good quality. Any suggestions?

Is it the whole top of the cake that you're doing in red, or just a small portion to make the design of a hat? What about this idea? Could you use a shaped red fruit roll up, red licorice, or hot tamales to fill in the space? Maybe it wouldn't quite be maroon... I just hate having to mix red tones--it always tastes off to me. Hope your cake turns out well!

you want to use the paste kind, especially when your having to use so much to get that deep color. But you probably already know this.

Love that chart.Never had one like that when I professional cake decorated. When I cake decorated with had different colors instantly make the colors with a little give and take of the color.

If you use red at all, I would for SURE use the no taste. Ugggh... I remember the first time my sister made RED roses... oh, they were awful!! I only buy the no taste red for my icing colors. Do you mind sharing where you found the color chart? Thanks:) It would be helpful:) The other week I was trying to get "turqoise", and wasn't sure which colors to use... and had to ask DH to keep coming over and checking if it was the right shade yet!! LOL.
