Here's the original Duncan Hines Tiara Dessert pan recipe!

  • Here's the original Duncan Hines Tiara Dessert pan recipe!
    This is also called a flan. Very yummy stuff! I know many people have these pans and probably don't know what to do with them!

    This came with the original Duncan Hines tiara dessert pan.

    Basic Flan recipe

    3/4 c. sugar
    1/4 c. butter
    3 egg yolks
    1 1/4 c. flour
    2 t. baking powder
    1/2 t. salt
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 t. flavoring**

    Mix sugar, butter and eggs. Add milk with remaining ingredients and then combine all.Pour into well-greased pan and bake at 350° for 25 min. Remove from oven and let cool 10 minutes before inverting on serving plate. Cool and then pour filling in the center hollow. Garnish edges with cool whip if desired. Pretty!!

    **Cherry pie filling is good with almond flavoring
    Peach pie filling is good with rum flavor.

    Here is the recipe I posted on this board some time ago. It uses the Jiffy cake mix and the creamy filling goes in the indented center and then is topped with the pie filling. Quick and easy and tastes delicious, too. One of my DH's favorite desserts. We really like the cherry pie filling in ours.

    Cherry Cheese Flan Cake

    1 small box Jiffy® yellow cake mix (comes in small box like Jiffy® corn muffin mix)
    1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
    2 1/2 cups Cool Whip®
    1 cup powdered confectionery sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 can cherry pie filling
    1/2 cup sliced toasted almonds

    Prepare cake mix and bake according to package directions. Bake in a greased and floured flan pan (preferably one with a removable bottom). After baking, cool cake 10 minutes, then turn out on wire rack.

    Soften cream cheese and whip until smooth. Add powdered sugar, Cool Whip, and vanilla and blend well. Place cake on serving platter, making sure indented side of cake faces upward. Spread cream cheese topping on cake. Top with cherry pie filling. Sprinkle with toasted almonds. Refrigerate at least 4 hours. Cut in pie shape pieces to serve.

    This subject (Tiara pans) was discussed on the www.recipelink.com boards a few years back. A number a variations wre posted. I know you can access the thread in thier search engine...just search for Tiara desserts, or e-mail the site & they'll help.

    Thanks for the recipe. I have one of these pans and I love it. I usually make a white cake and then fill the indention with cherry pie filling.

    Here's a really good one I have to use with these type of pans

    Chocolate Amaretto Mousse Cake
    Cake:

    1 Duncan Hines Fudge Cake mix
    1 Greased Tiara Dessert Pan
    3 eggs
    1 1/3 c. water
    1/2 cup oil


    Mousse:
    1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
    2 Tablespoons water
    1/2 teaspoon almond extract
    1 8 oz pkg whipped topping (such as cool whip)
    1/4 cup sliced almonds

    Directions:

    Grease Cake pan
    Add eggs, water and oil to cake mix
    Blend on low speed until moistened. Mix and Medium speed for 2 minutes

    Place 3 1/2 cups batter into pan. (Use leftover batter to make cupcakes)

    Bake at 350 degrees for 21-24 minutes
    Cook cake on rack 5-10 minutes. Remove from pan by inverting cake onto cooling rack.

    Cool completely and place on serving platter.

    For Mousse -

    Melt together over low heat chocolate chips and water. Stir constantly until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in almond extract. Refrigerate 10 minutes until thickened but still creamy
    In a medium bowl, fold chocolate mixture into 8 oz whipped cream. Spread evenly into well of cooled cake. Top with sliced almonds on edges if desired.

    It's very good!
