  • How many cups of browned ground beef is equal to one pound
I bought a huge pack of ground beef and was going to cook it all and freeze it. Does anyone know how much cooked ground beef would be in a pound? I don't have a kitchen scale.

    Thanks!

Depends how much fat cooks off. I would just divide it up after it's cooked, according to how many pounds you started with.
10# of meat before cooking = divide after cooking into 10 equal portions.
    Hope I made sense :).

One pound of lean ground beef equals 2 1/2 cups of cooked ground beef.
Found on a Ground Beef webpage.

I cast my vote with Alliea use 2 1/2
cups, I always add a little extra for good measure, that's just me. I would say 2 3/4 cups.

I would say what are you going to make with it? I don't divide mine into equal packages. I know I need more for tacos then for a casserole. You know how much your family will eat in one sitting, don't get too hung about about making it a perfect pound.

I was searching for this same thing as hockeymomof4 and saw your user name, avatar, and name (with pix) and HAD to reply. I too am (originally) from MI, a mom of 4, Dutch (my mom and her family immigrated when she was 2), and my name is also Vicki! I don't suppose you are in the Grand Rapids area, are you? Because I was born in Butterworth (now Spectrum) and lived for 18 years in Grandville.

    Hi, Vicki-

    Welcome! Hope you'll visit often!

You may not have noticed that this thread was started in 2006- and I checked and found that HockeyMom has not posted ( under that name, at least) since 2010....maybe she's still around using another screen name...but I didn't want you to get disappointed if you didn't hear from her!

So, glad you're here- and hope you will join in often!

    Margaret,

    Thanks for the heads up!

I am sorry for the confusion, but I wasn't 'talking' to HockeyMom. I was talking to DutchMom4MI. Also, even if I son't hear from either it will be ok. I just couldn't believe my shock to see someone with so many similarities I figured I'd comment. ;)
