Can you substitute sour cream for butter in a cookie recipe? Can it be done? If so, will it be cup for cup? What will the difference in texture be? I appreciate any and all help on this....

Don't think I would try substituting sour cream for butter. Sour cream doesn't have the same texture (oily). Margarine can be used to replace butter.

I think shortening or margarine would work better thsn sour cream. On the butter flavored crisco, there are instructions on how to substitute.
