We used to have the VERY BEST hear in Buffalo'NY.  There was a Greek restaurant next to the Century theater but I can't find anything to compare with theirs!

    RECIPE BY: Tx2Step (on RecipeZaar)

Growing up in Upstate New York, I practically lived on this stuff. It was allegedly developed by a Greek immigrant, which is evident in the spice combination.

    1 lb
lean ground beef (lean ground turkey works equally well)

    1 large onion, chopped

1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

    2 cups water

    1 teaspoon thyme

    1 teaspoon celery seed

    1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

    1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    3 tablespoons chili powder

1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

    1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

In a large saucepan brown beef and onions, breaking up large chunks. Drain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer, uncovered, 2 hours. Tastes better when reheated the next day.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined. Thoreau

I grew up near Elmira, NY, and yes M&M's is awesome.  I tried an online Coney Dog sauce recipe one time, and it called for pickle seeds.  They totally ruined the sauce.
