    Review:Duncan Hines Decadent Carrot Cake

    I just baked the new Duncan Hines Decandent Carrot Cake this morning and I am very disappointed. First of all, I have only made homemade carrot cake in the past, but decided to give this a try. I am a fan of Duncan Hines cake mixes, but not the Decadent Carrot Cake.

    First of all, you must take the dried carrot and raisin combo and soak them in hot water for 5 mintues. Upon opening the carrot package, there is an off smell, that turned me off. I decided to go ahead and bake the cake, hoping the smell would disappear into the spicey aroma of the cake.

    I baked the cake and they only baked to about 2/3", which is very disappointing and looks pitiful. The raisins all sunk to the bottom. I made homemade cream cheese frosting because I don't care for the canned frosting. This will be eaten tomorrow, so maybe the carrot flavor will mellow out. I did sample a small piece that stuck to the side of the pan and you can taste that off carrot taste. I am also hoping the cream cheese frosting will make it more palatable. My inlaws like carrot cake and they make like this, I just don't care for it. As a back up, I am also taking some cookies.

    Has anyone else baked this cake? If so, what is your opinion?

    This cake mix was on sale for $.99 last week so I gave it a try. On the side of the box is a recipe for carrot cake cupcakes, and that is what I made. You add a can of crushed pineapple to the mix and other ingredients. The cupcakes came out very moist and had a good taste.  I love homemade carrot cake and would never replace it with this cake mix, but the unfrosted cupcakes were wonderful with a cup of coffee for breakfast - not too sweet.

    I was going to try this cake mix but a friend of mine told me about her experience-which is the same as yours.  So obviously I will not try the new supposedly wonderful carrot cake mix!  Thanks for your review which backs up the other I had from friend!

    Thanks for these reviews - it will save some money for others.   My favorite carrot cake recipe has the crushed pineapple in it - adds so much moisture and flavor.   I also like cake mixes but the regular carrot cake mix - or the scratch cake is definitely superior to this new one.  I predict it won't be on the market long.   I had not seen it in the stores - but may just have "missed" it.

    Duncan Hines Decadent Carrot Cake Mix No

    I did not like it at all it was a wast of my time & money. [:'(]

    So i will stay makeing it home made.I did put pinapple in it to still not very good! Sorry !!!

    This cake mix makes a delicious carrot cake. I've tried other brands that used corn flour and artificial carrot flavor for the carrots, yuk. Would I buy this mix again? You bet! Got 3 more boxes yesterday.

    I've baked the cake and your experience was not mine. I thought it was pretty darn good for a box cake mix. I did add a few more raisins. I found no off taste or odor and I would certainly buy another one.

    Wish I had read this before making this cake. Your experience was exactly mine. It's back to the old fashion scratch recipe for me.

    I shelled out bucks for this  cake mix.  very dissapointing as well.  There are some things that you just have to make from scratch !

    Carrot cake is one of them.

    No  Carrot cake ??  You could have fooled me.  I thought it was a spice cake, cause that is all I tasted.
