  • ISO: Original M&M cookie recipe

I am looking for the original M&M cookie recipe that my Mom made in the 70's. I think the new one on the M&M website is different. It also calls for the newer mini M&M's not the regular size. Can anyone help? I want to make them for my kids. I made the one on the website about 1 1/2 years ago and it wasn't like I remember.

Thanks for your help.  Big Smile

    Original M&M Cookies Recipe

    • 2 1/4 cups flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 cup butter or shortening
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla
    • 2 cups M&Ms (reserve 1/2 cup for decorating)
    1. Position one of your oven racks in the middle of your oven and preheat your oven to 375F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper for best results. Otherwise, use ungreased cookie sheets.
    2. In a medium size mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt and baking soda until well blended.
    3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter (or shortening) and sugars with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until light and fluffy (This will take several minutes). Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula to make sure everything is well blended.
    4. Beat in the eggs and vanilla until creamy.
    5. Stir in flour mixture with a wooden spoon just until blended.
    6. Stir in 1 1/2 cups M&Ms.
    7. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets. Press several additional M&Ms into each cookie.
    8. Bake one cookie sheet at a time in the middle rack of the oven for 9 to 12 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown around the edges and just set in the center.
    9. Remove from the oven and transfer the cookies with a thin metal spatula to a wire rack to cool completely.

This recipe yields about 5 dozen

Although Nestle tells me they original toll house cookie recipe hasn't changed, I disagree. I have an old cookbook by Nestle with it in it and use that recipe. It just tastes better than the one on the chocolate chip package. I love the older cookie recipes!

  • Re: ISO: Original M&M cookie recipe

I just made the same recipe this past week and it IS exactly as I remember them tasting as a kid.  I think that alot of people just toss M&M's into their chocolate chip cookie dough and call them M&M Cookies and they are NOT the same......AT ALL!  These were perfect!  Thanks for sharing the recipe Nancy (I made the one with the water as an ingredient).

Now - would someone mind posting the "old" chocolate chip cookie recipe?  I agree, the one that appears on the bags of chips now is not the same!  I seldom make chocolate chip cookies anymore just because of that - they just don't taste "right".  LOL

This is the toll house cookie recipe I've made since 1999. I do think it's different than the old one, but I've not been able to find the "old" one say from the 60's or 70's. If someone has it PLEASE share it. We can compare it to this one.

Original NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Chocolate Chip Cookies
