Good morning friends.
Last night we ended up ordering Chinese food. So tonight, I'll make fried chicken.
Helen & Lori, I pray that you are both safe from Debby.
Yesterday we had rain in the morning, then it cleared and then a thunder and lightning storm. After that the sun came out again and the temps dropped considerably.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy
Good evening friends.
Just wanted to say thanks everyone for your prayers. Today we got 5" of rain and the county is now asking us to limit or avoid using the dishwasher, washing machine, and flushing the toilet as much as possible due to the run off. Just what we need, another problem. The wind is wild out there still at this hour--29 mph, gusting to 50 mph--sounds like it's going right through the house, but I'm going to try and get some sleep.
Have a good night and even better tomorrow.
Lori
Hello friends. Our temperature is finally cooling off tonight- it was pretty warm. The football field stays cooler than other places in town, and the kids are just starting practices- so no sprints, etc. DH and I went along to watch practice too- we had the chance to sit and talk during and that was nice.
Nancy, fried chicken sounds delicious! We have some chicken quarters that I think we are bbq-ing with a big pot of mashed potatoes and gravy. That's Tuesday's dinner! Hope the cooler weather sticks around for a bit.
For those of you in Debby's path- take care!
Tammy- praying for your DGD today with her surgery. Keep us posted.
Vickie- I believe I missed wishing you a happy anniversary. Sorry!
Tasty- busy, busy! It sounds like you all have everything under control with the sale- it's good to keep notes on something like that! I love tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches- comfort food at its best!
Marlene- that is a lot of driving for your boss! Glad he's back so work is improved.
Stacey- how goes the exercise with the heat? How are you doing on your goal? Keep it up!
Jan- always something interesting going on with you!
Waving a hello to all. I made a small dent in my paperwork mountain earlier- I'll have to keep plugging away at it. I'm making up DS's transcript to make sure we've got things covered for his graduation. He wants to take beginning French this fall and middle DS wants to take Japanese. Of course, youngest son thinks Italian sounds cool. Oy... I think I've found the French, have a lead on a Japanese tutor- the Italian is throwing me! And one of the classes I'm teaching this fall involves learning Greek and Latin roots- I think that might be the limit on my language exposure for one year!! LOL If anyone knows of someone traveling to Japan for an extended trip would you let me know? DS wants to go there- as an exchange student for a semester would be perfect in his mind!
I'd better go for now and switch more laundry. I'll chat with you again later!
Ellie
Good morning~ OMG 5" of rain Lori ! You will be swimming ! That is unreal. Pllease stay safe and in your home. How does DH get to work? That would be un real to drive in. Just can't imagine.
I will be taking MIL to eye Dr. today to see how things are going. I have bread, butter and pop to take to them. Dad has to have 7up and Mom Dr. Pepper, can't drink same thing! Stopped at the store last night to get their things so didn't have to today.
Everyone have a great day.
Marlene
Good morning.
Nancy and Ellie, glad you are getting some relief from the hot weather. Enjoy it while you can.
Ellie, I know what you mean about that paperwork mountain. I'm trying to make a dent in mind too. With your DH working many long hours, I'm sure the two of you enjoyed being able to sit and visit while the boys had football practice yesterday. Good for your boys wanting to learn other language--sounds like you'll have some future linguists in your home one day.
Tammy, said a prayer already this morning for your DGD.
For those of you in the Midwest, stay safe in the heat. Spoke to my brother back in Michigan and he said that the temperatures are climbing daily and I think he said Wed. or Thurs. they were calling for 100* DD also said temps would be back near 100* later this week.
With the unremitting SSW winds, we continue to get bands of strong winds and rains as they pass over us. Alot of rain has moved into southern Ga. now, but the center of Debby still sits off shore in the gulf. The latest is that we have maybe another 1 1/2 days of this.
Today is National Chocolate Pudding Day. Plan to surprise DH and cook him some pudding this morning so he can take some to work this afternoon. Dinner today will be an Italian Zucchini Crescent Pie.
Better grab another cup of coffee and begin doing some work here. Talk with you later. Hope everyone has a nice day.
Lori, glad to see you are on here -- I was wondering if y'all had lost power. That is a lot of rain and I understand having to be careful now about runoff but it sure is hard to not use all those things you're used to doing without a thought!
We are having perfect weather right now -- sunny and 80s -- supposed to get the really hot temps this weekend. DH is going to Cincinnati with a friend tomorrow for a Reds game, and I'm glad they planned for that day when the high is predicted to be 89* -- the next day's forecast jumps to 100*!
I cleaned the kitchen last night and also ran the self-clean cycle on the oven-- don't do that often so I always forget how it makes the kitchen smoky. But it is so nice and clean this morning! Pretty happy about that. (The first house that DH & I bought, when we were looking at the kitchen, I opened the oven and found it full of dirty dishes! I don't want to do that.) Now, like Ellie, I need to de-clutter my desk. Trying to get everything cleaned up and ready to show.
Not sure about dinner but I have some chicken breasts in the freezer so that is a good starting place.
Good Morning,
We've got on-again, off-again wind gusts and downpours still cycling through. Some flooding but not like further north. Thanks to all for the good wishes.
We'll be venturing out to Hubby's doctor's appointment mid-morning. Then we might stop at Publix, depending of course on the weather.
Dinner tonite will be baked pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy. Looking forward to that, just sounds good.
Have a lovely Tuesday.
Mornin' all,
Lori & Helen, stay safe.
Running back to the curling club this morning to carry on cleaning up after the sale.
Last night when we came home I was too tired to cook so it was homemade tomato soup that I canned last fall and grilled cheese. That really hit the spot. Now I already have the potatoes peeled for dinner tonight. If it's all prepared I know I'll use it. Tonight will be roast beef and gravy (left from Sunday) with mashed potatoes and broccoli
Have a lovely day,
Tasty
Another good morning! We woke up to 55 degrees and RAIN! Nothing like from Debby, but much needed rain. It is now sunny again but the temp is so wonderful. Younger DS's are glad they did the lawn yesterday!
Elza, had to laugh at the dishes in the oven! With my second built-in oven I use it to put hot cookie sheets and baking dishes. I try very hard to remember they are in there! Wouldn't that be embarassing as a home owner??
Marlene, your in-laws definitely have their own tastes, don't they? Hope all is well at the dr.
Helen, hope all is well with hubby's doctor also. Lori, I didn't know it was chocolate pudding day. lol I may actually bake some cookies or something while the temps are lower. Tasty, dinner sounds delish!
Gotta run. More later,
Hi !I'll write in brown today in honor of national chocolate pudding day, as we won't be eating any today.
Wish you all could send some rain to Colorado. They sure need it. Here in Gunnison it is a clear and sunny day. Because our schedule changed we cancelled a reservation that we had down in Cortez, CO. The guy said there it was very smoky from some fires.
We just got a text from DS, saying that DGD was out of surgery and it went well. Thank you so much for the prayers.
Marlene, you are lucky to have a nice boss. Mine was almost always a bear with a sore paw. he was always griping about something. My best weeks were when he went on vacation.
Ellie, I don't know of anyone living or traveling to Japan. We have a friend moving to the Phillipines soon, though.
We have some good friends visiting in Michigan right now, they live in the Houston area. I'm sure they are not real happy about those hot temps in Grand Rapids right now.
I'm glad the sale went well, tasty. It sounds like you are on top of things for next year. I agree about the trash that some people donate to charity.
We are waiting to hear that the truck is ready. They said it would be ready by 10 this morning......I see they are 15 minutes late so far. As soon as they call, and we get the truck back, we are taking a drive up to Crested Butte. We'll eat lunch out, and dinner will by avidcook's pork chops. I really need to stop by the store later today.
Lori, and Helen, be careful dealing with that weather. Sure hope that system moves real soon.
Have a nice day!
Tammy
Just a quick post to let you know I am in the land of the living. Tammy I immediately said a prayer for your DGD for today’s surgery and complete recovery for her. Lori and Helen stay safe today. I wish we could get one good heavy downpour of rain to saturate the soil then back to 80 again, but that is not going to happen so no point in wishing.
TV dinner and salad for me.
Heading outside to mow, edge, weed eat both yards so it can go out with the trash tonight. Grows too fast this time of year.
Have a lovely day everyone.
~Jan~
~~The most important things in life aren't things!~~
My house is a disaster area! Everything is draped in painters' cloths as the painting phase has now begun. Painting is scheduled to continue tomorrow, and then the floors get done on Thursday and Friday. All is scheduled to be completed by 2 PM on Friday. I'll believe it when I see it. I will be burning the midnight oil on Friday to get everything back in it proper place (pictures on walls, furniture moved back, etc.) because a cleaning crew is scheduled for Saturday, and I want everything to be ready for them to clean.
We ate leftovers tonight because everything in the kitchen is either covered or moved. I think tomorrow we may go out to dinner. I'll be glad to have my house back next week.
Wishing relief to everyone with weather issues - too much rain, too much heat, whatever.
