We got about 20 min. of rain yesterday. That's not much, but it's better than nothing! The tree leaves here are turning yellow and falling, just like fall (most are still green, but many leaves are falling). The temperatures are in the 90's, like normal now, not in the triple digits anymore.
Better get watering outside again!
Mary
Keep Smilin'! A good laugh- for any reason- will do anyone good!
Some overcast today and 75 degrees. Will be in the 70 temps for a few days then back to 80 temps end of week.
Wishing all a good week.

We've had thunder and lightning stor*s the last few days but *ostly all show. (Insert the letter before the letter "n" anyplace you see a *. *y keyboard started acting up the other day....won't type that letter. Guess it's off to the store for a new one.) Very little rain, just a few showers but we aren't hurting for rain like so*e of you are. I'* getting concerned about the drought affecting the corn plus the feed for the cattle. Afraid we are going to be in for it price wise shortly....beef as well as the corn. Going to go to Costco and stock up a little on frozen corn. Have a number of canned in the pantry but I like the frozen better. Safeway had excellant corn 6 for a dollar the other week so I froze about 30 ears for winter. Should look into buying a quarter beef. Beef prices have gone up anyway this year. Waiting for a pot roast sale at any of the grocery stores. Looked last week at a few stores plus Costco but I refuse to pay around $3.50 a lb. for pot roast.
My son visited us for six days. He and Duane went fishing a couple of times and they had a good time. Did see him also in Spokane when we had Duane's party over there.
Hope you all are behaving yourselves and having a good weekend.
They mentioned on the news yesterday morning, that many corn crops are hurting because of all this heat and drought. The cost of corn and beef will be higher this winter, they say. Many cattle farmers are selling their cattle early because it is costing so much to feed them now, so beef will be affected too. I don't see any rain in our near future this week. We'll see.
I did play golf again last Saturday, but we went around 7:30 and only played 9 holes, but the heat sure was coming on when we got done. There was no way we would play longer! Even the golf courses don't want you to run your golf carts on the "rough" grass, sometimes, because the longer grass is so brittle because of the heat and drought (even though they water). Glad we have public courses because a golf club would be too expensive right now.
Hi Liz, good to see you. Glad your son could visit. Nice to have time with grown up children.
Hi Mary, hope your heat spell will end soon. It has been a long spell of hot weather for your area.
Some sun coming thru. Don't remember if it will get up to 80 degrees or not. But it will be an okay day.
Wishing All a Good Week.
Hugs, Deery
Today will be near 99-100 degrees again. Other forum chats are talking about the corn crop is suffering, and making beef suffer- farmers selling cattle because they can't get food for the cattle, but not many will buy the cattle because you can't feed them. The whole country might feel the price effects this winter.
I have a bag of houseplant potting soil in an outside storage bin, and I looked last week and it had many ants in it. I hate to re-pot plants for inside, and bring the potting soil that has ants in it, inside. I'm not sure what to do.
Mary, I think the ants think they have found the perfect home. I don't have an answer for that one.
Out on the deck for lunch. Had my favorite dinner. Top Ramen Noodles with frozen California Blend veggies.
Bad insomnia night. Must be the electricity in the air. Didn't get the thunder showers but it has turned overcast.
Wishing All a restful night and a nice rest of the week.
Supposed to get to 103-104 degrees today and triple digits all week now. This is summer, but it sure isn't "regular" around here.
I'll ask on other chats what their opinion to do with the ants and potting soil. I hate to waste over a 1/2 of a big bag, just bought a few months ago.
Deery: the noodles and vegs. sound very tasty. I'll make a dish with shrimp and stir-fry vegs. tonight. Can put it over spaghetti, if you want.
Hi girls,
Deery the temps here have been alot cooler but suppose to warm up again this weekend. Hope you aren't getting to many storms. Your soup sounded good. :)
Mary, not sure either on what to do about the ants, never run into that problem. Hope you can find some answers so you don't have to waste the soil. Either that or use it outdoors in another plant that stays outside. Hope you are staying cool.
Connie, how are you doing chickie? Hope you are staying cool as well. Are you having many storms your way? Hope not to bad. How are your plants doing? Hope all is well with you.
Liz, a few thunder storms through this area as well and some cooler temps so that is good anyway. I think you are right, we best be stocking up on corn, the prices are going to be going way up.
Nancy, hope you and Bill are doing well and staying cool. Such strange weather all over the country.
Well have been busy here making jams and jellies. Made strawberry rhubarb, raspberry rhubarb, plum, grape, strawberry and cherry. Think I am done except for maybe some blackberry when they get ripe. Also canned some grape leaves. :) Jim has been gone on a fire and is on his way home for 2 days off and then back to it. Will be nice to have him home for a few days. Hope everyone is doing well. Hugs, Ann
Hi Ann, glad Jim will have a couple of days at home before going back out on the fire. All those jams and jellies sound great. A lot of work put into those.
Mary, hope you are staying cool.
Our weather has remained almost perfect. Not to hot and not too cold. DGD dance recital is this evening. Then Fri family is going to Family Reunion in Washington. I just tire too quickly to want to go. They stay a couple of nights. My lab work did show I need to start taking iron tablets. I will have DD buy some on Monday shopping day. I sure hope it will perk up my energy. I need to email the pharmacy and see if it is okay to take iron with the prescriptions I take.
Wishing all a nice weekends.
It rained here around 5 a.m. for about 30 min., then just sprinkled for a few hours. Now it's back in the triple digits temperatures. Tomorrow may only be 94 degrees though. I'm sure the plants like some water.
I looked in that bag of potting soil that was full of ants last week, and they're all gone! That plastic bag must have gotten to 120 degrees when those days here were 106, because it is inside a plastic bag and then in a plastic storage bin too. There are a few other insects in there, but that is not a problem. This has never happened before, so this was probably a "freak" thing.
Bye for now!
Hi Mary, bet you are relieved to have ants gone.
Dance Recital was nice. DGD danced 3 ballet numbers. Two by herself. I got to see her dance one song on point for first time. She looked so natural dancing on point. Just like she had always done it.
Enjoy the weekend. Weather has cooled. Mostly overcast today.
Deery: that ballet sounds like it was very nice. I always wanted to dance, but never took lessons.
My lower back muscles don't like it even when I go up stairs or stand up, so dancing is out-of-the-question now.
I am relieved that I can use my soil again. I don't have plants that need soil right now, but it is nice to know that it is there when I need it. I need to go outside and water again. It will be near 100 today, and 104 tomorrow.
Good morning ladies, hope everyone has been behaving themselves. Ahhh Deery you have to start pumping iron? hehe, that is pushing the iron huh? Do you like liver?*giggles* so many don't but I do, or used to at least, have not had it in a long time, Kerry does not like it but says just because I don't like it does not mean you can't eat it. He is just leaving for work this AM, looks like another busy week. Ann Jim has taken off again by now I am presuming, prayers for his safety going out. Deery how nice that you got to see your beautiful DGD dancing at the recital, any new updated photos of her? I bet she is just getting taller and taller, she so looked like you in her photos I thought. Used to do some dance myself in my younger years, hehe, sure could not do the tap, ballet and baton now adays, my poor toes would hurt wayyyy to much. Good that you are able to get out and enjoy, and getting out on your deck. Ann my tomatoes are gone now, or most of them. I have a huge strawberry pot full of tumbling tom yellow tomatoes growing and starting to pick from that container. I cut down most of my tall plants, they were just wilted from the heat and not bearing any more tomatoes, so used the cutters to cut them down, still have two plants to do maybe today and put in the trash bin. Ripped a nice cut in my arm doing so, wooden frame got me good, a corner as I rounded it. I watched what I was doing after I got it cleaned and bandaged. Are you still making jams and jellys Ann? Do you ever make any fig preserves? A friend gave us two jelly jars then a pint jar of them, Kerry has been enjoying them and I made homemade biscuits yesterday. Kerry put up a new light fixture in the laundry room on Sat, one of those honey do projects, seems like it is never ending. Keeps life from going stale I guess. Went to Lowes as well this weekend. Was ironing Kerry a pair of starched out jeans at 11 pm last night, hehe, that is what I get for not staying home and getting them done huh? Have a good week ladies, take care, hugs, Connie
Many plants outside just aren't doing well because of the heat; I water them, so they don't have a lack of water, but the heat all the time is so unnatural.
I wore a hat I crocheted (in winter) at church yesterday, and got so many compliments and a lady wanted me buy one, if I made one for her. I just don't know how much they are "going for" in price now. I asked her to call me and we can go to a store and she can pick out the color she wants (it is done in nylon thread with wire in the wide brim and around the head). I wore a shawl I made out of spools of crochet thread that were given to me (so didn't cost me anything), and found a pattern for a table runner doily for free on the web, and I made a shawl a few months ago- am getting so many compliments- glad I decided to make something out of the thread instead of just letting it "sit".
