Hi everybody ~
It's been hot & humid here today & tomorrow doesn't look much better. We sure could use some rain, everything is drying up & getting brown. It got really dark & there was some thunder a little while ago. All we got was, if you put it all in a cup, would have been about 1/8 of a cup, if not less! Like that's going to do any good. We need a good, soaking all night rain right about now. The wheat out back is beautiful, though. Talk about "amber waves of grain".
Doris, I had to get a new phone shortly after Christmas. All I wanted to be able to do with it was to make & recieve phone calls & do text messaging, only because my kids do it all the time & I needed a keyboard rather than trying to use the numbers on the front of the phone... way too confusing for me. At least a keyboard is something I'm familiar with. This phone that I have has voice mail (took me 3 mos. to figure out how to access that!). When I'm in Canada, I don't get much reception either, but that's OK. I can still get text messages if there's an emergency of any kind, so I'm happy with that. I hope your dh had better luck with this surgery than the last. Let us know how it went. I can't imagine they would put metal staples in his face.
Renate, you must be getting so excited! I hope the baby holds out until your daughter's b-day. Our oldest, Christine, was born on mine & we always have such a good time together on that day. Hey, have you ever tried limencello? It's a lovely after dinner liqueur. But if you don't like lemon, you probably won't like it.
Juggle???? You juggle, Margaret??? That's a hoot! I haven't made bean bags in years. The last one I made I actually still have. It's in the shape of a frog & when the kids come over, they always get it & start throwing it around. Not a bad idea for a Christmas gift for them. It's funny how the old toys/games are the best. Much quieter too, I might add. How's the mouth today? Yum, I love ham sandwiches too. I sometimes do them on a Fold-it w/ some swiss cheese & mustard. Most time, I'll just roll the ham up & eat it in my hand with a slice of cheese.
Janie, that front came through a bit ago & I turned the a/c off too. I've kept the windows closed though. The temp might be a little cooler, but not the humidity. We don't go out a whole lot either, but do enjoy a take out on a Friday when Michelle & Co. comes over. It's nice to get a break from not only the cooking part, but the planning on what to have as well. Yes, Janie, I've been watching some of the Olympic trials too. It's been hit & miss, but they sure have been good! I love watching that stuff!!
We may be having Joe's cousin & his wife over for a cookout tomorrow. They're here from out of state for a few days visiting family. If they come, I have some Italian sausage patties in the freezer that I'll pull out & make some peppers & onions, make a salad, some deviled eggs & figure out dessert of some kind. I'm not going to fuss. It's going to be too darn hot to cook anything, although I have a can of Grandma Brown's Baked Beans that I could doctor up & stick in the oven early in the morning. Then just warm up in the micro.
Joe's got a board meeting tonight, so I'm just going to have some chicken salad for dinner. Not sure what else, but I won't starve. Sorry this is so long, but I haven't talked with you all in so long, I was going into withdrawal. Talk with you all later. Hope you have a wonderful evening & hope it doesn't get too cold for you tonight Doris. I can't imagine those extreme temps in one day. LOL
Barb
My biggie of the day ! Drum Roll ! I vacuumed the kitchen floor. And I took the diry cloths for a ride on the front of the walker and thew them in the washer !!!!!!!! I am on my way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
M, I have been wracking my brains out trying to come up with some tasty semi soft meals for you. Deviled eggs, and egg salad are good. What a shame. Not being abe to eat is really bad.
The heat does put a damper on activities. I sure got fooled by it yesterday. Thought we could open up. I just love fresh air.
I have a few Beenie Bags too. One is shaped like a frog and another is a lizzard. They re so cute. I have the lizzard drapped down from one of my Local Pictures hanging on the wall. It looks so cute as the material is Island themed. Kind of an eye catcher.
His head is ankled as if he is looking at the Picture. lol
Barb, No blabber sweetie. I enjoyed the good read. (((((hugs))))) My phone is a no frills as well. It talks I answer. lol Your meal sounds nice. No huge plans here as well. Not in the mood for picking crabs. So it is going to be a Burger! A new Recipe.
What do ya think of this one. Mac & Cheese stuffed cheeseburger. I saw it on a Blog but do not want to c/p it as some bloggers have been complaining to Toh about some of their recipes& photos appearing here. Without permission. Its a very touchy issue with some of the Bloggers. Its so amazing how recipes recycle over and over, yet some get seriously annoyed when others share their recipes that have more than likely been Borrowed ( with a few tweaks) as well ! So to keep peace and things running smoothly. I now pick and choose recipes to share wisely.
Doris, Hope your hubby is resting well. ((((((((hugs))))))) ~ What a huge drop in the temps in the evening. I'm afraid I'd have to bundle up. lol Honestly I feel so cold anymore. It must be the Coumadin that I am on. Mr just laughs. I actually have socks on. Bp is on the low side as well.
Wishing all a great night. Go Phillies!
Janie
See ya all in the Morn
Had to jump in one more time...
Had some Bob Evans mashed potatoes, some canned rutabagas ( mashed) and 1/2 an avocado...for dinner- felt like I'd won a million bucks! Also 2 Advil and some red wine..)
Glad to see you, Barb- what a busy time- and great catch up you did!
Janie- congrats on the vacuuming, GF! Be gentle on yourself...the house can wait! ( That's been my story for years, and I'm sticking to it! ) Sending good thoughts to Blair...
Renate- I can't wait to see how that little baby getss spoiled by his Oma!
No plans for tomorrow- but my brother will be coming in from NJ on Thursday for a quick overnight- it's always so good to have him here...
My niece will not be going to the Olympics this year- her time from last year would have qualified her for this year, but after she was injured, she never got her best time back...she will root hard from home, and think about the next games in Rio in 2016...what a great gal she is!
OK...that's all for tonight...
M.
Good morning! May I?
Happy Fourth of July! I hope you have good plans for the day- and cooperative weather for those plans! We've got nothing on the books, and that's fine with me!
I hope the fireworks will be contained well in the fire prone areas- all it takes is one stray firecracker to create a huge problem. Firecrackers, etc, at illegal here in NY, and frankly, I don't mind that! Somehow the kids always manage to get them, and some will be too loud all night- scaring pets...making messes...and tomorrow we'll see reports of kids who have been injured...big firework shows are wonderful- and legal- and we have some great ones here in Albany...but in the hands of kids...unsupervised...
OK...taking off my safety patrol cranky neighbor hat...
Waving and sending hugs...I'm going to make some egg salad today ( thanks for the idea!)
Have a great day, friends!
Good morning all :)
I really hope this works. My computer has just about had it. So shortly I will be getting a new one. Do any of you girls know how to go into this site and change the email address that I used to have on it? I know I have missed so much, but more than just missing out on what is going on with everyone, I have truly missed all of you girls.
As you know, I've been packing for weeks and unpacking for weeks. (mights as well say months!) And I've still got a few things to finish up. And that involves a new computer desk and a new computer and a different shower head and it will then be completely finished. Can't believe how quickly May and June flew by and now here it is July already! The heat has been out of control here. The temps will be around 105 degrees all week and I think we have had 11 days straight of over 100 degree weather. The highest being 108 at the end of June! But I know everyone is suffering with this oppressing heat and Colorado has really suffered with all the fires they are having. My heart goes out to those poor people.
John is slowly getting better. He had what we hoped would be his last surgery a few weeks ago. They took out all of the stints in his lower stomach, but then had to put another stink in the tail of the pancreas. His stomach was so messed up that the pancreas was not draining in the normal place that it was suppose to. So now it is, but he will have to have one more proceedure eventually to get rid of that stint. The doctor see's a little improvement, which is good, but told John that he recovery to the point of feeling completely well is going to take a very long time. But none the less there's hope there will be an end to this at some point. I'm so happy that he has Shaley to help him through it.
Through all of this moving, I haven't been eating properly. Just grabbing food here and there that I didn't have to prepare and I've gained a bit of weight back. I'm really beginning to feel it too. So Saturday is my target day to go back on my low carb plan. I am really looking forward to it because I know I'll start feeling better when I do.
Enjoy your day and be safe. Stay in and stay cool.
Linny
Hey, Linny-
What a sight for sore eyes! so happy to have you back! Sorry John hasn't bounced back as everyone had hoped, but at least they have a plan to make him all better! How is your brother Jack doing?
Well, I just made and gobbled up some bodacious egg salad- plain HB eggs with a little mayo and some S&P...but, man, it tasted great! I think I'll be better prepared for the second procedure as far as knowing what to eat...I still am really craving real food- not liquids...not mushy...something with snap and texture! Soon, I know...I'll try to be patient..
Hope all is well with all of you...I hope you are all having too much fun to stop in..!
Bye for now!
Margaret!! I just read that something is wrong with your side and you're not eating. What happened???? Oh....I just read it has something to do with your teeth. Right? It must have been a big surgery if you can't eat for a month!
Hi Carol, I wish there was a pool for all the seniors here! Couldn't you just see that? lol But I do have friends that have a pool and I'm taking Johnny over there to swim this Thursday. I'd get in too, but the ladder to get out is kind of straight and my knees just won't pull me up. Wish I could though, cause swimming is such good exercise.
And Janie, what happened to you???!!! Did you have to have another knee surgery? I'll telling you, they can be very painful and take such a looooong time to heal. But when mine finally healed, they are wonderful. I just run all over the place now. I just can't get down on my knees anymore unless I have like 2 or 3 pillows under them. Please let me know what happened when you can. The Cards are in 3rd place, I think. But not positive about that. I think my Coumadin keeps me cooler too! My kids say I'm always cold and I always were socks too. If my air conditioner is running, I sometime will put my sweater over me so that I don't get cold. My kids think I'm funny! I've been dealing with some dizziness and falling lately so the doctor run some tests yesterday and she mentioned that my blood pressure medication might be causing the dizziness and she may cut it down a bit, depending on how all the test come back.
Hi Connie, sounds like you are having a wonderful summer vacation. Bring us all home some walleye or any other good fish, will you? :-)
Barb, I am so sorry to hear about that young man losing his life. Such a horrible tragedy and I can't imagine losing a child either. My heart goes out to his family and all of you. The grass is brown and crunchy here too. We had a little bit of rain here too a couple of nights ago. I think we got a little or an inch but that was it. Everybody's gardens are in bad shape and I really feel sorry for the farmers trying to make a living this year. The crops are not going to be good. Enjoy your cook out with your family today!
Hi Doris! 48 degrees, sound devine right now. lol It's nice living up in those mountains in the summer time isn't it? I have a friend who lives in L.A. and she said it hasn't been too bad this summer, but she expects it will get much higher soon. I remember visiting Tulare (sp?) in California a long time ago and the temps. were about 110 degrees or so, but it didn't seem as bad because there wasn't much humidity at all. Up here, the humidity is what does us in. It's just steamy out there! I hope your DH sugery went well and he is recovery nicely.
Hi Renate, good to see you home! How are you making out in all this heat? It's breath taking if you have to be out in it for any length of time. It means no outdoor Muny for me! I bet you are getting anxious to see and hold that little baby. It won't be long now. You'll have to send pictures to all of us.
Have a great day everyone. I think I'm going to wash some clothes today. The laundry room always has less people in it on a holiday :)
Ga Everyone, Happy Fourth to all. Hope you all have great plans for the day.
Hi Linny, How great to see ya. Joh sounds like his progress is slowly moving on. It certainly has been a very long path he has been walking. It is good that he has a partner to keep the spirits up.
Feeling a bit queezy today. breakfast is not agreeing with me. Last forkfull has me feeling slightly ill. Took my upset tummy meds. Hopefully it will kick in .
Dr's tomorrow. Stitches will get removed.
Go Phillies. Yea Right ! Yesterdays loss not good at all. 11-1 ~
BANG!!! CRACK!!!! BOOM!!!!! SCREEEEEEEECH!!!! Happy Independence Day!!!!!! Boy, is it ever hot here! It was 85 & humid at 10:30 this morning & at 2:10, it's 92. Wonder if we'll break a record today. I have everything closed up, fans are going & the a/c has been on since about noon, that's when it actually started really warming up in here. It's going to be a stinker sleeping tonight. The columbine (sp?) was out in back this morning cutting that beautiful wheat. I had a feeling it was ready. I think I was a farmer in a former life . hehehe There's a very nice HOT breeze out there now.
Janie, you are a wonder women, my friend. Mr. must just shake his head at you sometimes. Must be the PT is working well since you're able to do some vacuuming & laundry. Just don't push it too much, though. I'm not sure about the burger recipe you're going to try. You'll have to let me know. Yes, I know how some people are with their recipes. Crazy, isn't it? I don't understand why you wouldn't want to share them either. Oh well.
Whoo Hoo Margaret. Great dinner last night. That must have filled you up some & satisfied the taste buds. Desperate times call for great creativity. We'll be rooting for your niece in Rio in a few years. She's smart to sit this one out. Nothing planned here today either. The kids have plans with friends or the other side of their families, which is fine. We were all together on Sunday. Seems nice to have a quiet day, especially one in the middle of the week. Boy, will I ever be confused when I go back to work! The kid? (21) next door came home w/ his gf awhile ago & was setting of some firecrackers. Not expecting them, I was outside & they scared me half to death.
HEY LINNY!!!!! Whoo Hoo, you're back! Sorry I can't help you with the e-mail address. Ask Sue & I'll bet she'll be able to help you. Your computer seems to be working OK for here. It's so good to have you back with us. We all missed you so much. Yes, we've had some high temps too, but nothing in the triple digits here anyway. I sure hope you have a/c. I'm so glad that John is really on the road to recovery. It's just going to take time & I know how frustrating that can be. Shaley is a godsend! I can understand why you haven't been paying attention to your eating habits. Now that you are more or less settled in you can get back on the wagon & start losing those extra lbs.! We'll have to look around for the whoosh fairy!
I finished Janet Evanovich's "One For The Money". Really great read & I'm not one for "who done-its". This is a book that I got from Tine that has the first three of her stories in one book. I'm now on "Two For The Dough". I've never read anything of hers and I'm really liking the way she writes. We're having sausage patties on the grill tonight, peppers & onions, a salad & some deviled eggs. Hey Margaret, there's another one for ya... deviled eggs. It's a good snack too! I have a load of towels in the dryer that need folding, some sheets on the line & my museum dress that I need to bring in. I really hate going out there, but I'm afraid it's going to rain... scratch that... I'm hoping it's going to rain! Have a wonderful rest of the day everybody. Talk with you all tomorrow.
Hi, friends-
So good to see you....we've had a nice quiet day- I did enjoy some mashed and some egg salad for dinner....I have my next appt on Monday- hopefully he'll give me the all clear to start back with some real food...
Happy that some are enjoying some good family and friend get togethers...my brother is coming to town tomorrow...yipee!
Have a good evening, friends...sending special thoughts to Doris and dh...
Hi Linny,Great to see you. I am sorry, that Johnny has such a difficult time with his health. His Lady is amazing, that she helped him through it all.I am not doing so well with accepting this heat, since I did not grew up being locked inside with AC. In Germany ,summer is the time to be outside .Don' understand me right, I am very happy that we are having central AC. You are so right, not any Muny for me anymore too and not any outside concerts in the heat.
Janie, please don't overdue it. But in my eyes ,you are doing a great job, getting better again. I can not imagine have to knees operated.
Doris,I hope you DH is doing well and does not have any staples.
I don't know, when I will be able to hold the baby? Maybe in October? They are too far away from me. Yes,I can not wait. The family is just looking for names. I don't want to hurt anybodies feelings, but I am very against giving the baby a name lots of other people have. My DH had 5 Johns in a small company he worked and from my former friends from work,we are ten,5 husbands names are John. The second name , Four are Robert and we have 3 other friends named Robert. The next group is called William or Bill.I don't think it is so bad with the girls. Mary and Ann is very common in my friends group. But I think it is very hard to decide, since the child will have its name for a long time.
We had a fantastic time at the neighbors yesterday, celebrating already the 4th of July. Both of us and some other neighbors were the oldest onces, while the host and her friends were all my childrens age. Two couples came from out of town. There were 20 children there and maybe 18 adults. The children were around 5 years old,but not any problem. The backyard is pretty large and is next to a wooded area. The had an inflated swimming pool away from the patio. They also made a plattform with a zip (I think that what it is called) line. A robe came down from it and it had a little seat, where the children could sit on and slide down through the yard. They all had a fantastic time, including us adults. I made my red beet salad, German cold potato salad and the black bottom banana cake,to take along. Today,we are doing not much and I have to write a birthday card and a few e-mails.
I hope you all had a great 4th of July! I have to read all the other posts again. You know me,I am the slow one.hugs,Renate
Sorry about all the misspelled words.I forgot to read my post again.
Margaret, how nice to see your brother tomorrow, in the middle of the week, so to speak! Deviled eggs and egg salad, I will ask dh if he would like those again, he called a "moratorium" on them 6 months ago! Also did the same thing for tuna salad, tired of that. Can you eat tuna salad, or is that too mushy/thick? Sure hope the doctor clears you on Monday.
Janie, vacuum and doing laundry, my goodness! Too bad the meds make your stomach queasy though, hate that weird feeling inside. Take care!
Renate, you sure had a busy/fun time yesterday, and lots of food spread around, too.
Barb, what a nasty bunch of temps you have, and the putrid humidity with it, don't think I could deal with it, especially at night. Do you have an extra A/C in the bedroom, perhaps?
Linny, so nice to read your posts again. What a pain in the butt moving is though, I don't look forward to it. So you are getting a new computer soon, do you know which kind already? Do you have good tv there at the new place? Hoping John mends nicely now, can he even go to work though?
dh is sitting, watching tv, or sleeping in the recliner. He is still bandaged up, but regular stitches this time. Still needs pain pills, since they worked so long on him, we were there over 5 hours, and were starving after it was done, dh just went to our favorite place to eat, bandages and all!! Mostly people our age there, no one acted surprised to see someone with a bandage. We go back on Tuesday to get these stitches out.
It was 48 degrees again this AM, and hit 89 today. That is why you can't grow tomatoes up here, unless you heat a greenhouse up. Nice for sleeping though.
Connie, when do you head back home, this weekend?
We are low starching it until the 15th., when we have tickets to the Beachboys 50th. Reunion concert, staying overnight at Lake Tahoe. dh is looking forward to having some fun.
Take care of yourselves, friends.
Doris
Good morning, friends! May I?
Hope your day went well yesterday!
Doris- glad you and dh were able to get out and at after his surgery- what a long drawn out procedure for him...hope he'll feel better each day! Thanks for the tuna suggestion- I don't eat seafood ( except salt water taffy ) but some well chopped up chicken salad ( without celery.. ) would work!
Janie- I trust you've told your Dr that the pain meds make you queasy...they must have something else that would work on the knee pain but not cause more harm!
Off to shop for my senior today- then back for one more session of juggling with the girls...I made some balloon beanbags they can keep- so they'll have something to practice with...then dinner with my brother...hummm...sounds like scrambled eggs...
I'm sure you all read about the little girl that was electrocuted while vacationing in Disney...went into a small pool to retrieve her miniature golf ball...well, that little girl was from around here- I didn't know her, but she went to school about 10 miles from here, so you can imagine the local coverage of this tragic event. Poor kid...from all accounts a really nice girl...what a shame!
Well, I'll get Fester out for his morning walk and be back a bit later...
Waving and sending hugs to you all...have a great day!
Gm Everyone, Just a short note for now. I have to bust a move and get myself together for the Dr's. Not looking foward to it but it will be nice to get outside and in a different surrounding for a while. Even if it is the City.
Hope my threads come out easily ! I know they will be better then what the staples were.
Heat continues.
Quiet night last night. No bangs.
Phillies finally pulled one off. Great game with a nice win !
M, Glad you are able to work your way around some foods. Deviled eggs a good suggestion. I was thinking that maybe a baked sweet potato would be nice. Enjoy your visit with your Bro.
Barb, I have read a few of her books. Funny characters. For some reason my reading has been on hold. There for a while I was into 2 books.
Renate, Good eats. I too am on a Baby Watch. Due date is the 12th, A girl and our second great grandchild.
Its very exciting.
I'm slow too !
