Does anyone have a great recipe for Au gratin Potatoes or something similar? I would love to make this for my mom who is ill this Christmas. Warmest regards, Lisa Chastain - Paradise, TX.

I use these recipes a lot.

    Creamy Scalloped Potatoes

4 large baking potatoes, peeled and cut in 1/4 inch slices
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
    2/3 cup milk
    1 teaspoon prepared mustard
    1/4 teaspoon Tabasco
    8 ounces cream cheese, softened

Layer potatoes and onions in a greased baking dish. Combine soups, milk, and seasonings in a saucepan. Add cream cheese to soup mixture. Heat and stir over medium heat until smooth. Pour over potatoes and onions. Bake at 350º for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender.
NOTE: For au gratin potatoes, sprinkle top with 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese and 1 cup fine bread crumbs mixed with 2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine.

    Cheesy Potato Bake

    4 large unpeeled baking potatoes
    1/4 cup butter or margarine
    1 Tbsp. grated onion
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. dried thyme
    1/8 tsp. pepper
1 cup (4 ozs.) shredded cheddar cheese
    1 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley

Thinly slice the potatoes and place in a greased shallow 2-qt. baking dish. In a small saucepan, heat butter, onion, salt, thyme and pepper until the butter is melted. Drizzle over potatoes. Cover and bake at 425 degrees for 45 minutes or until tender. Sprinkle with cheese and parsley. Bake, uncovered, 15 minutes longer or until the cheese melts.
    Yield: 6-8 servings.

These are the best we"ve ever made, came from page 228 in the 2005 year book:1/3 chopped onion, I use a lot more. 5 tlb butter 5tbl flour 1 1/4 tea. salt 1/2 tea. pepper 5 cups milk
6 cups thinly sliced potatoes In large saude pan, saute onion in butter. Stir in flour, salt, pepper until blended, gradually add milk. Bring to boil;cook & stir for 2 minutes or until sauce is thickened. I also put lots of velvetta cheese in the sauce. Place half potatoes in greased 3 qt. baking dish. Pour half of sauce over pot. Repeat layers. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 60 to 70 minutes. I found it takes all of that and sometimes more. 8 servings
