Here's another favorite Mexican recipe. Got it a few years ago from a Denver TV show called "Good Afternoon, Colorado". Don't know where the name "Big Bertha" came from but that's what they called it!

    Big Bertha
    (Mexican Casserole)

    Saute 1 # hamburger
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    1/2 cup green onion, sliced

Add: 2 cans stewed tomatoes (14 1/2 oz)
    1 pkg taco seasoning
    1 can green chilies, chopped
1 small can black olives, sliced
    Simmer about 20 minutes

    1 pkg (14 oz) Doritos
1/2 lb Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
    1 pt. sour cream
    1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

In a 9X13 greased pan layer 1/2 bag doritos, meat mixture, Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream, rest of doritos. Bake at 325~ 20 minutes covered. Add cheddar cheese and bake 10 minutes more, uncovered.

Great, i served this to my family when my children were growing up and it was a favorite. I remember using flour tortillas instead of Doritas.

This sounds wonderful! I am copying to try soon. Thanks so much for taking the time to do an R&R on this dish. And, thanks Tallula for the suggestion about flour tortillas. I'l bet they are good, too.

BTW, I see this is your first post. Welcome to the Taste of Home Community. Glad to see you jumping right in. There are lots of friendly, helpful folks on the board.

Welcome to the boards and thanks for the recipe. My favorites are casseroles and crockpot meals. I've got 2 little ones and these items are always the fastest to the table.
