How exactly do you secure stuffed chicken with a toothpick?

  • How exactly do you secure stuffed chicken with a toothpick?
    Do you weave it like a needle, put it straight through the center, or something else? I've never made them before and am trying them for dinner tonight.

    Weave like a sewing needle. Actually, if you have any shish kabob skewers, they work even better (because they're longer). You should be able to find them in the Oriental section of your grocery store. :)

    I try to put a thin layer of stuffing and spread it out throughout the chicken then roll it so that it's evenly distributed. I normally place one toothpick (two if needed) toward the end of the chicken to hold in the stuffing....hope this helps...

    I use safety pins. When you remove them, soak a bit in warm water, then tie in cheesecloth and toss in dish washer. Safety pins work great too when closing the neck skin on a turkey. Just fold over and pin.
