    When I was growing up, my best friend's mother would cook pork, make gravy from the juices and add drained sauerkraut to it. That's the only sauerkraut gravy I've run across. I'll check some of my German cookbooks though and see if any of them have a specific recipe.

    Thanks. My daughter-in-law is of German descent, so guess that is why she remembers her Grandmother making this type of gravy. If you ever find a recipe, please let me know. Thanks again.

    Found this on the net, does it sound like what you wanted?

    SAUERKRAUT GRAVY

    1/4 lb. butter or oleo
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 c. sauerkraut juice
    1 c. water
    salt to taste

    Brown butter and flour. Add sauerkraut and water. Cook to soft gravy. Pour over boiled potatoes and serve hot. Sprinkle with chopped dill (fresh) or use dill seed. Can be
    eaten with any kind of food.

    Tiarose, I'm still looking through my cookbooks, old and new. Haven't forgotten about you though, just haven't found anything other than the usual gravy recipes. In case Twinkle (in Germany) didn't see this though I will ask her if she's famliar with this gravy.

    PORK - SAUERKRAUT AND POTATO DUMPLINGS

    Recipe By :
    Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00
    Categories :

    Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    1 pork chop or pork steak per person -- (1 to 2)
    1 Large onion -- chopped
    1 Tablespoon caraway seed
    1 Teaspoon salt
    1/2 Teaspoon pepper
    1 1/2 Pounds sauerkraut

    Brown pork chops or pork steak in large skillet. Cover with water and simmer 15 minutes. Add onion, caraway seed, salt and pepper. Simmer 60 minutes. Remove meat from skillet. Make a gravy. Drain sauerkraut and add to gravy. Bring to boil. To serve: Spoon sauerkraut gravy over dumplings.

    My Mom said she never heard of having gravy with sauer kraut until she married my Dad. We always have pork, mashed potatoes, sauer kraut and gravy made from the pork essence. NEVER browned the flour. It was not white as in sausage gravy, more of a clear, grayish color. Oh Lord, that sounds terrible, but I hope you know what I mean. My mouths watering, have to put this on the "to fix" list for next week.
