How do I go about doctoring up three 28 oz cans of Bush's baked beans? Please let it be easy and tasty! Thanks!

P.S. They are for my husbands Super Bowl party. I was going to make homemade, but had to go to Albuquerque and I ran out of time. I love Bush's brand as they are, but thought they may be better if doctored up a bit!

I would add brown sugar, molasses, and mustard then I would lay bacon over the top and bake until the bacon is crisp. I've done this lots of times.

I agree with Carol. However, I would add just a little ketchup too. The last few years, I have fried the bacon and added some of the grease to the beans and then crumbled the fried bacon in the beans. Seems to make a much better flavor, and those that don't like the bacon on the top like it mixed into the beans.

These ideas sound great. How long and at what temp would you bake them?

My mom adds ketchup, brown sugar, and bits of crumbled up bacon, then she throws it in the oven for an hour or so. Tastes great every time.

This is what I ended up doing: I fried about 1/2 lb of bacon (diced it up first) and then I did not measure but through in some ketchup, a little shot of mustard and some brown sugar and a little hot pepper sauce, stirred, and put in a corningware dish. I have stuck it in the oven at 325 degrees. I did not cover it, but maybe I should.

Funny you should bring this up. Tonight I was going to slice up some hot dogs and add them to my beans! (I add a little mustard to this.) Serve w/corn muffins on the side.

I'd put some onion in there too! Happy super bowl party!

Ludy, to cover or not to cover depends on whether you like that crusty top or not. I like the crusty top and would leave it off, but that's just me... I'll bring the franks and buns!

Well, Bush's are the only brand that I will eat without doctoring up! :) But when I do I add cooked bacon, crumbled, sauted onions, molasses or brown sugar and a big dollop of mustard.
