Doughnut cream filling

  • Doughnut cream filling
    Does anyone have a recipe for the cream filling used in doughnuts bought at bakeries? (such as long johns) Not a custard filling, please. Thanks!

    2 tsp. very hot water
    rounded 1/4 tsp. salt

    Mix until salt is dissolved and set aside. In a medium sized bowl, whip on high speed until fluffy:

    7 ounce jar (2 cups) jar of marshmallow cream
    1/2 cup white shortening
    1/3 cup confectioner's sugar
    1/2 tsp. pure vanilla

    Add the reserved salt mixture. Combine well. Fill donuts with a cake decorator or pastry bag.

    This recipe is delicious. I think you could use it for doughnuts too. I use it for cream horns.

    Warm Weather Cream Horn Filling
    1 cup Crisco
    1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    4 cups confectioners' sugar
    4 tsp. vanilla extract
    12 Tbsp.(3/4 cup) marshmallow cream

    Cream Crisco and butter until fluffy. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar. Add vanilla and marshmallow cream; beat well (until it looks like whipped cream.)


    I like this recipe better than the one I got with the original recipe I have. Thanks

     Creme Filling

        * 1 cup shortening
        * 1 cup confectioners' sugar
        * 1 cup white sugar


       1. Using an electric mixer, whip shortening in a medium bowl with
    confectioners' sugar and white sugar until creamy, 5 to 10 minutes.

    I am also looking for a filling to go in Long Johns. There use to be a bakery when I was growing up that had long johns with a butter cream filling. I haven't found a long john to equal up to that in 35 years. If anyone has a recipe for that please post. I don't want one that is a pudding consistancy or one that is a frosting.

    I have never cared for the cream fillings in donuts, long johns, etc, at the donut shops. Was not aware they had so much shortning in them. Might have something to do with why I do not care for their taste.
