    My first thought was if they're Southern, they must have more salt and butter. LOL

    But I think the only difference is that they are diced instead of shredded.

    No, they aren't any different. Southern style are more kind of chopped up pieces, as opposed to the shredded kind.

    I am really disappointed in Ore-Ida. I saved the bag because I am going to call them. I bought the Ore-Ida because I wanted to do the soup just as the recipe stated.I was so disgusted when I opened the bag and saw all the pieces of potato that had rotten spots on them. I spent so much time picking them all out. If you buy an off brand you may say,"well, you get what you pay for", but you expect quality when you buy a name brand. I guess that is something else that is a thing of the past.

    As many on here already know I use Mr. Dells brand of frozen potatoes exclusively. No preservatives. They come in shredded, southern and O'Brien for sure. May be others. Hope you can find them in your area.
