I am looking for your best baked beans recipe for Easter. I can bake it in the oven, or put it in the slow cooker. Thanks in advance.

This is the one I make exclusively now. A friend passed this recipe on to me and I made it once and now EVERYBODY loves it and wants the recipe. The men especially are always requesting this recipe. I usually double this amount and put it in a big crockpot when I am serving a group.

    TACO BEANS

1 large can pork & beans, drained
    1 lb ground beef, cooked
    1 package taco seasoning
    1 medium onion, chopped
    16 oz ketchup
    3/4 cup of brown sugar
    A good squirt of mustard

I fry the ground beef and onion together and drain well. Then add the other ingredients and either bake or put into crockpot for 2 - 3 hours on high. Usually, I crack the crockpot lid to reduce the amount of liquid, but everyone's different on how they like their beans.

This makes a wonderful side dish since it doesn't contain meat as many baked bean recipes do. I like to let it marinate in the fridge overnight so the flavors blend well, but it works well to go ahead and bake it without marinating if you don't have time. It's a sweet/sour flavor so is not that super sweet taste you get from the basic baked beans that often just have catsup and jelly in them. Hope you try and enjoy them.

    Marinated Baked Beans

8 ounces bacon, cooked and crumbled
    3 tablespoons bacon drippings
    1 large onion, chopped
    1/3 cup cider vinegar
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
16 ounce can kidney beans, drained
16 ounce can large lima beans, drained
16 ounce can tiny butterbeans, drained
16 ounce can pork and beans, do not drain

Cook onions in bacon drippings just until tender, but not browned. Drain well. Combine bacon, onions, vinegar, and brown sugar. In a large mixing bowl, combine bacon mixture with beans. Pour into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover tightly with
foil or plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least two hours or overnight to allow to marinate. Bring to room temperature, about 30 to 45 minutes. Remove cover and bake at 350° for 1 1/2 hours. NOTE: If you can't find the butterbeans, use butterpeas or tiny green lima beans. This also goes over well at pot luck suppers.

This was posted by Rettajo and believe me they are a keeper!! Dh asked if I would make these at least once a week! LOL... well, I don't know about that... he is male..... :) :) This makes a LOT. So, I am putting in jars and sealing with my food saver and will share with the in-laws. They will love it!

    Peach BBQ Beans

8 strips bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
    1 large yellow onion, chopped
    1 (#10 can, about 6 pounds and 10 ounces) baked beans (recommended: Bush's - Retta and I used the 3lb + can)
3 cups canned peach pie filling (I used 1 can)
    1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons Old South BBQ Rub, recipe follows

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon and cook, stirring, until somewhat crispy and its fat has rendered. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain, leaving the fat in the skillet.
Add the pepper and onion to the skillet and cook, stirring, until softened, about 6 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a large baking pan.
Add the bacon, beans, pie filling, barbecue sauce, and rub to the pan. Mix to combine and bake, uncovered, until hot and bubbly, about 1 hour.

    Old South BBQ Rub:
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    1/4 cup sweet paprika
    1/4 cup kosher salt
    3 tablespoons black pepper
    2 teaspoons garlic powder
    2 teaspoons onion powder
    1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    1 teaspoon dried basil
Combine all ingredients and mix well.
    Yield: 3/4 cup

I usually make calico beans instead of baked beans because my family really likes them. There are many on the board. Here's one that is like my recipe except that I use Bush's baked beans instead of pork and beans.
I also add a dash of liquid smoke. Be careful and just use a drop or two.

Can you use Bushes baked beans in the Calico bean recipe

There's a million variations of this recipe. The following is the one I've used for many years. I only use Bush's baked beans for the pork and beans. This sounds really good right now. Mmmmmm.

    Calico Beans

    1 pound ground beef
    1/2 pound bacon
    1/2 cup diced onion
    15-ounce can kidney beans, drained
    15-ounce can butter beans, drained
    15-ounce can pork and beans
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    3 tablespoons ketchup
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 tablespoon cider vinegar
    1 teaspoon prepared mustard

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Brown ground beef, onion and bacon (crumble cooked bacon into pieces).

Mix beans with meat mixture and add sugar, ketchup, vinegar and mustard. Mix well. Pour into casserole and cover. Bake for 1 1/2 hours. Makes 8 to 10 servings

I usually mix it all and cook it in the crockpot for about 3 hours on high.

This is by far the best recipe for baked beans. I got it from my MIL and could lick the bowl clean every time I make it. It has a bit of sweetness to it. Love, love love it!

    Best Baked Beans

    1/2 pound bacon, diced
    1 large onion, diced
    1 green pepper, diced
2 cans (29 oz each) Pork and Beans
    3/4 cup brown sugar
    1 cup ketchup
    2 tsp worcestershire sauce

Cook bacon until crisp, remove from skillet. In bacon drippings, saute onion, and green pepper until tender. Return bacon to skillet and add pork and beans, brown sugar, ketchup, and worcestershire sauce; blend well. Pour into bean pot or large casserole. Cover and bake at 300 degrees for 3 hours.

    These are great!

    RANCHO BEANS

2-16 oz cans pork and beans
1-16 oz can kidney beans, drained
    1 lb ground beef
1 pkg dry onion soup mix
    1 cup ketchup
    1/2 cup water
    2 Tbsp. mustard
    2 tsp. vinegar

Brown beef and drain. In separate bowl, mix all other ingredients together. Add beef to this mixture and mix. Put in 9x13 pan and bake at 400 for 45 minutes.

A great take-along! When I'm taking for a crowd, I double the recipe. I don't care for plain pork and beans, but this is a hit wherever I take it.

    Christy’s Baked Beans

1 large can of pork & beans
    1# bacon
    large onion
    1 bell pepper
    ½ c. molasses
    ½ c. brown sugar
    1 Tbsp mustard
    salt & pepper to taste

Sauté bacon, onion and bell pepper and drain the grease. Mix remaining ingredients. Slow cook for 1 to 4 hours.

My shortcut - slice bacon into pieces and cook. In the meantime add the remaining ingreds into the crockpot. Drain cooked bacon on paper towel and add to the bean mixture. Slow cook for 1 to 4 hours.

Thank you all so much for replying. These recipes all look so good. Now the hard part-- deciding which one to make. I will save this thread so I can keep trying new ones! We're having ham and potato salad and baked beans, I need to figure out which will go the best with that. Usually when I make baked beans I just put in a little of this and that not really using a recipe. I thought I would try something different.:)

    Thanks again so much!
