    i have a recipe that calls for two packets of quick rise yeast but the yeast has expired. will i still be able to use it? it expired about six months ago.

    You can test it. Put 1 tsp of yeast in 1 cup of lukewarm water in which you have dissolved 1/2 tsp. sugar. If it bubbles up and smells........well........like fresh yeast, it will work in your recipe. If nothing happens after 5 - 10 minutes, toss it and buy some that hasn't expired.

    The temperature of the liquid in which yeast is dissolved is very important. Too much heat will kill the yeast, too little will slow its growth. Dissolve dry yeast in liquids at 105F to 115F
