This is the recipe my mom used to use. I could never figure out why the ham, which was cooked in beer didn't taste like it. I guess I never noticed tne ginger ale.
Desalted Beer Ham Recipe
1 Ham with bone in2 cans of Ginger Ale1 can of Beer2 TBSP dry mustard1/4 cup fancy molasses
Desalt the ham by pouring Ginger Ale in a plastic bag and putting ham in. Let soak for about 3-4 hours.
Remove fat and and put ham in a foil lined oven-proof dish.
Mix beer, mustard and molasses and pour over ham.
Cover with foil tightly and bake for 15 minutes a pound basting from time to time.
Uncover and bake another 20 minutes.
You will get a very tasty moist ham.
** Desalting is better for your health.

What I have always done when I am cooking a ham, is to pour a can of gingerale over the ham during the last hour of cooking and it takes the saltiness away.
