OK, I've made the grape pie and...it's ok. It was incredibly easy to put together. It helped that I made the dough the night before. But I think I put too much lime juice because that flavor was very distinct. I would recommend sticking with lemon. I think, if I make this again, that I would use flour instead of instant tapioca as a thickener. The little bits of tapioca weren't pretty. All in all, it is a good pie. I think I might like to try it with concord grapes sometime...do they come in a seedless variety? HmmmHmm  Oh, I think a big dollop of Cool Whip would have been good on this pie. It had the consistency of a cherry pie and Cool Whip just came to mind. I love Cool Whip!

Has anyone else made something grape?

    Hello everyone!

Wow! It was pouring down rain when I came to work! So get ready Shannon! :)

Hmmm I think I might have to try the grape pie! Thanks for the tips Shannon. I usually use cornstarch to thicken my food. I usually don't keep tapioca on hand....

I havn't made it myself, but my aunt made the grape salad that has cream cheese, brown sugar, grapes, and a few other things in it....it is really good! Its a real easy recipe....

I still have my sniffles.....I hope the rain doesn't make it worse! LOL!

Berny congrats on being a proud mama! :)

Hope everyone is having a good day!

    Waving to everyone!

Cornstarch! Duh!!! I don't know why I said flour. Thanks Jet. I probably would have used flour just because it was in my head. OK I'm heading out to do some shopping. I have to exchange the webcam because it's not the exact one that DF wanted. With him being a computer engineer, I have to get just the right thing or else it won't be right. Oh well, it's his money, he can have what he wants. Love him.

Then I'm going back to World Market. There were some things that I just really want to get. Jet, I don't know if it's the same as the one you mentioned or not. There weren't any clothes or anything like that. It was home decor, kitchen accessories and food. Yummy Food! I think I'll find the Trader Joe's that's up here too. I'd like to check it out. OK ttyl

  • Re: The German Corner* Grape Recipes!!!
Shannon, I think the lime juice is much stronger. Maybe it is a good idea,to mix the grapes with all the ingredients,as the recipe stated, but let the grape mixture sit for 1/2 hour for the tapioca to get soft and expand. I can not remember that I had lit bits of tapioca in the pie, they get glassy,I don't know,if this is the right word. I will look,if I find an other recipe which calls for flour or cornstarch. I like tapioca and sometimes, if the pie recipe calls for flour I add a couple of tablespoons of tapioca,to be sure the pie is not runny.========================= I think Twinkle posted a concord grape pie. I had one,oh boy was this good. But it is lots of work and I never have made one.You skin the grapes and so on.====I have to figure out, what I will do with the sour cherries, which I picked up from the farm. They are very small. ======================================================== Erna have a good trip and lots of fun. I hope the fire is not closed to you. ========================================================== Picasso, there is not to much new with me.I am back home from Colorado.I also was one month with my DS and DD in Germany, which was wonderful.I saw all the relatives and old classmates. One friend I had not seen her since 1942.The highlight of my trip was meeting Twinkle and her DS Niklas. I still can not believe, that this really happened. I am doing to much cooking and baking and I should do much more house cleaning. Since my DD is coming tonight.I am doing right now. Renate

    Layered Grape Terrine

From Good Housekeeping This recipe has been triple-tested at the Good Housekeeping Research Institute

    3 envelope(s)

    unflavored gelatin

    1 cup(s)

    (6 ounces) green seedless grapes

    .5 cup(s)

    sugar

    2.25 cup(s)

    red grape juice

    2.25 cup(s)

    white grape juice

    1 cup(s)

    sour cream

    1 bag(s)

(5 ounces) baby watercress or mÂche

    Red grapes, for garnish

    1. In 2-quart saucepan, sprinkle gelatin over 3/4 cup cold water; let stand 3 minutes to soften gelatin. Meanwhile, cut each grape in half.
    2. Stir sugar into gelatin mixture; heat over low heat 4 to 5 minutes, stirring until sugar and gelatin completely dissolve. Remove saucepan from heat. Pour 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons gelatin mixture into medium bowl; stir in red grape juice and grapes. Stir white grape juice into remaining gelatin mixture in saucepan. With wire whisk, stir sour cream into white-grape-juice mixture until smooth.
    3. Ladle 1 1/2 cups red gelatin mixture into 9" by 5" metal loaf pan. Freeze 25 to 30 minutes or just until firm. Cover remaining gelatin mixtures; let stand at room temperature until ready to use.
    4. Ladle 1 1/2 cups white gelatin mixture over red gelatin. Freeze 25 to 30 minutes or until firm. Ladle remaining red gelatin mixture into loaf pan; freeze 25 to 30 minutes. Top with remaining white gelatin mixture. Cover and refrigerate terrine at least 4 hours or until set.
    5. To unmold terrine, place loaf pan up to rim in bowl or sink of warm, not hot, water for a few seconds. Remove pan from water. Carefully insert small metal spatula around edge of pan to release gelatin. Dry outside of pan. Invert terrine onto platter. To serve, cut into slices and serve with baby watercress or mÂche. Garnish with red grapes.

    Italian Sausage and Grape Stuffing

From Good Housekeeping This recipe has been triple-tested at the Good Housekeeping Research Institute

Start with a package of seasoned stuffing mix and end up with comfort food that tastes like you made it from scratch.

    1 pound(s)

Italian-sausage links, (sweet and/or hot), casings removed

    2 large

    onions, cut into 1/4-inch dice

    3 large

celery stalks, cut into 1/4-inch dice

    1 package(s)

    (16 ounces) herb-seasoned stuffing mix

    12 ounce(s)

(3 cups) seedless green grapes, each cut in half

    1. Heat 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add sausage and cook until browned, about 10 minutes, stirring frequently to break up sausage. With slotted spoon, transfer sausage to very large bowl. Spoon sausage drippings into cup; reserve.
    2. In same skillet, cook onions in 1 tablespoon sausage drippings over medium heat, until tender and golden, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Transfer onions to bowl with sausage.
    3. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. In same skillet, heat 1 more tablespoon drippings (discard any remaining drippings). Add celery and 1/4 cup water, and cook until celery is tender and golden, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in 2 1/2 cups water; heat to boiling. Pour celery mixture over sausage mixture in bowl. Stir in stuffing mix and grapes; toss to mix well.
    4. Spoon stuffing into 13- by 9-inch glass baking dish; cover with foil and bake 20 minutes. Remove cover; bake 10 minutes longer or until heated through and lightly browned on top.

  • Re: The German Corner* Grape Recipes!!!

Twinkle, yumm, can I have two chocolate muffins, lol.  How exciting for Germany to be in the soccer finals.  Can't believe little Hannah is already three, I remember when you announced her birth.  Have fun at the markets.  Yesterday, DS#2 did the week's worth of grocery shopping for the first time by himself, and did very well, not even using a list.

Berny, congratulations to your son, what a proud accomplishment.  How nice for you and DH to vacation together alone, am sure its been a while.  Just recently DH and I travel w/o our sons and it's kinda wierd, but nice.

Picasso, TY for the recipes.  Well, it's been refreshingly boring here in SE Wisc.  I travel occasionally to Ft. Lauderdale w/DH and more frequently to downtown Chicago, which is about 60 miles south of where we now live.  Both DH & I are from Chicago.  Are you still in the same job position?  Healthcare of some sort, no?  I was three years in nursing school, but stopped for my own reasons.

Renate, enjoy DD's visit and hope you get to do some fun stuff.  DH used to have St. Louis as a territory for his job and we had many wonderful driving trips there when the boys were small.  A great town.

Shannon, TY for the review on the grape pie.  Pies are one of the things I find challenging to bake.  Only been to a World Market once, it was so fun, I coudda spent the whole day there, but there are none in the Milwaukee area.  When it comes to computers/telephones/electronics, my guys are on their own because I'll always get the wrong thing, so I just gave up.

Supposed to be rainy and muggy here in SE Wisc.  Dobie is learning to snorkel in the pool, lol, pretty entertaining, but it sure tires him out..  Everyone have a safe, happy day, lydia.
