  • ISO: Cake Mix Cake Recipe That Tastes Like A Bakery Cake

I had copied a recipe someone had posted several years ago where you added a couple of ingredients to a cake mix and it tasted like a bakery cake. I believe the woman used to work in a bakery. Does anyone have that recipe?

    TIA

I don't know what a bakery cake tastes like, but i got a recipe off this site long time ago that is really good when I decide not to make a scratch cake.

1 cake mix (and not the ingredients on the box)

    1 box instant pudding mix

    2 eggs

    2 cups milk

mix together and bake, it's wonderful

I've made the one CookieGrandma posted, and it's really good with chocolate cake mix, chocolate pudding, the eggs, and chocolate milk.

Might this be the recipe you're looking for?  I think it would be a terrific wedding cake.  Sorry, I don't remember who originally posted it:

    White Almond Sour Cream Cake

2 (18 ounce) boxes white cake mix
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    2 cups granulated sugar
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    2 2/3 cups water
    1/4 cup vegetable oil
    2 teaspoons real vanilla
    2 teaspoons almond extract
    2 cups sour cream
8 large egg whites, room temperature

Place all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir together with a wire whisk. Add the remaining ingredients and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour into greased and floured cake pans, filling each pan about half full. Lightly tap cake pans on counter to bring air bubbles to top. Cut through batter with a toothpick or tip of a knife to break large bubbles.

Bake in preheated 325° F oven until cake tests done.

     Stimpy,

I don't remember sour cream in it but do remember having to add extra flour. The sour cream cake recipe you posted sounds the closest. Thank you.

    One 16" round
    One 12" round + one 10" round
    One 12 X 18 sheet cake
    One 12" + one 8" + one 6"
    22 petite loaves

Half recipe makes two 8" rounds
Recipe and a half makes One 16 X 3" round
Double recipe makes One 18" round + One 10" round
I have added cocoa in addition to the flour (not replacing it) and it has worked wonderfully. (Idea is from the Cake Mix Doctor.) In fact, I do it for all my chocolate cakes when I use a mix. It does give a bit more of the deep, true, not milk chocolate taste that some may not like as well. I do think that changing the mix to dark chocolate may help some, too.

I used this cake for a weddding cake and several birthday cakes -It is the best I have ever used. Just wonderful.. Evelyn
