Does it work to freeze apple pies?  Do they turn out okay when you bake them?

Absolutley!  You won't know the difference once they are finished.  I love to buy a big box of mac apples and make several apple pies for the winter.  That way, if company comes, I've got dessert!  You can put them from freezer into the oven, but for the life of me I can't remember the baking instructions.  I just know it takes longer of course.

I freeze apple pies and peach pies. I also make dumplings of both kinds. I either bake or unbake my fruit pies. I turn a stryafoam plate upside down and write the date and what kind of pie it is on the bottom of the plate. Then place this on top of the pie. I use containers or freezer storage bags double wrapped, and freeze the pies. Then when I want a pie for a meal, or a snowy day of shoveling snow, or company, or on Thanksgiving day, a pie comes out of the freezer. I remove the plate and wrapping or remove from the container. Stick the pie on a cookie sheet. Lay a piece of aluminum foil loosely on the top of the pie. Turn the oven on to 350 and let the pie bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Makes it great to have a pie handy to enjoy.

I know it is fine to freeze pies.  My problem -- frozen or fresh -- is how to keep them from getting soggy.  Any answers?  Mary Kay
