I recently bought some PD spices from Big Lots. When i got home with them, i noticed they were made in CHINA!!!! As i don't trust any food items from that country, i quickly threw them out. I couldn't believe good ole Paula would outsource that part of her business. Her other things, like beer batter bread and green tomato coating were made in the US...so why not the spices? I am truly disappointed! Does this bother anyone else?
Many spices are IMPORTED. Not ALL things are grown in this country. Yes, I agree with you on so many products that come from China that could be substandard, and I'm not thrilled with food from there either. Too bad you didn't look on the bottle BEFORE purchasing it. Mandarin oranges are one of my chief complaints...seems they are ALMOST ALL a product of China.
It bothers me but doesn't surprise me. Seems that these days she'll do anything to make a buck. I used to be a big fan, but no longer. Unless it is an original recipe of hers, anything with her name and/or picture on it amounts to an endorsement. I think she has very little, if anything, to do with the products she has slapped her name and picture on.
It does bother me, but as Marilyn said, many spices are imported.
As for Paula Deen, I once really enjoyed her and her shows, but over time my feelings have wobbled. Seems all she really is interested in is the ole mighty $$$$.
That, plus she has become so SAPPY with regard to ANY man on her various tv endeavors. Can't stand her anymore, although I use to be a big fan. Really enjoy her first two cookbooks but that will be the extent of any PD purchases. BTW, you can buy MANY of her products at Big Lots which doesn't say much for how well they went over, does it ???
All her other products are made in China. I'm actually more surprised that any of her food products are made in the US. I do not care for her at all, and she seems, like others here have said, to only be about the money.
I think a majority of spices, no matter the brand or where you buy them, are imported from somewhere because most of them are just not available in the US. As for Paula, ugh, I'm kind of tired of seeing her & hearing her everywhere! I like it when I catch an old episode of her original show on Food Network, it's like a totally diff person hosting it!
I bought PD's parsley in Big Lots and saw the product of China on the label. I took it back.
What's the matter Paula dear we can't grow parsley in the USA?
I saw a lot of her stuff in Big Lots. That's where a lot of stuff that didn't sell goes. Says it all.
I see her two sons are getting in on the act. Bunch of money grubbers.

I was surprised recently to find that some Henckel knives I had been about to purchase were made in China.
Apparently Henckel does some manufacturing in China and some in Germany, Japan, Spain. and etc. I put the knives back . I have been reading more carefully now before I buy. I also saw some Emerill knives from China on the shelf.
