Good morning, friends! May I?
So nice to see so many of you stopping in- it's been a busy time for so many, I know!
I hope Connie and Patrice will share their cruise and Ireland trip stories with us- I hope the trips were great!
Doris- glad dh was able to get some releif from the bandage change and shower- he'll be glad to get the staples out next week, I'm sure! These trips that Steve takes are for his Masonic hobby- he's been retired for a couple of years...but he does like to do these other things- he did think last week's trips ( did two out to Utica for stuff) were a bit much, so he cancelled ( ) a trip to NYC today...he really enjoys the things he does, but sometimes he doesn't have to do them...
Carol- I hope the link gave you some info about the AC...my recopmmendation would be see what you can see in the stores and decide if they'd work for you...
Barb- you are really going to be turning right around and heading out again, aren't you? Good for you- and congrats on all the graduations!
Janie- I hope you'll be able to stop in when you're up to it...no pressure...we're just glad you're home!
Renate- I hate seeing the stories about all the fires- and hope they are not near your DS or the museum...
I've got PT at 7:00 this morning, and archives at 10:00, so I'll be back a bit later...
We had bbq brisket in the crockpot last night- yum- and didn't make the house any hotter!
Waving and sending hugs to you all...and a special shout out to Ann, Linny, Mary, Pam, and Alphy..
Have a great day!
Margaret
Good Morning!
I wanted to jump on here real quick to say hello to everyone!
I certainly hope that Janie is feeling much better! Remember, Janie, I can put Little Mike on a plane to come out there to help you with your PT. You've been in our thoughts and prayers.
it just seems like the weeks have been flying by.
Waving hello to everyonw andI hope everyone has a great day!
Take care, Pam
Good morning folks! I'm not totally recovered from all the vacation activity. I'm moving a bit slowly because I seem to have developed a sinus infection. I felt it coming on during the trip. I don't have congestion really, but just pain in my nasal cavity. Taking some over the counter meds to see if they help.
The trip was great. My favorite excursion was a river tubing experience in Jamaica. Five of the people from the family went on that and it was a complete hoot. It was fairly calm except for a few rapids to spice it up a bit. Much fun! The food of course was wonderful and I won't say anything else about that. Dave and I took a bike tour in Key West and really enjoyed that too.
Now I feel like I'm ready to start my summer projects.
Thinking good thoughts for all of you as you go about your day. Enjoy!
Good Morning,
Connie sounds like you had a blast and what a way to start the summer. Good on you as the Aussies would say.
I bet your kids are enjoying the pool with the hot weather as well as you and BM
Margaret I just wondered if the ac did a good job cooling I think we have plenty of room for it if we get the kids toys out of the corner it is a large room.I'm glad Steve decided to stay home today but then you have a lot going so you may not see each other much anyway. Hope the pt is getting easier on you and that both legs are much stronger now.
Doris a shower usually makes everyone feel better. Nest week when we are having 90° weather I'll fantasize about your 38° morning. It does get very humid here.
Janie I hope you are feeling more comfortable to and hope to see you back soon.
I put a brisket in the smoker and it was still on the tough side so I may just stick it in the crock pot today. We'll be gone for the whole day with Bev and then haircuts and Bev again, her sister is having some kind of heart trouble, so we won't get home until 5 at the earliest. Some days I would just like to lay around but the time will come soon enough that I will be lucky to help myself let alone anyone else and then I'll do my staying home I think. The pool is full now and I want to get a new ladder for it so I need to check around. I would like one that locks the stairs up. Haakon didn't like the water and would not go near it but no such thing with Maggie she is a daredevil of the worst ilk.
I need to think about getting this day moving hope you all have a wonderful and comfortable day.
Carol
Hi-
Well, it's trying to rain here- and our plants could use it...we'll do a nice limoncello pasta tonight- it's very light and refreshing! Our basil is blooming nicely, so we'll have fresh from the garden!
No other news right now- but i'll see you later!
M.
Hi everybody ~
Well, Margaret, I was just turning around & heading back up north, but I'm probably not going to be able to until Tuesday, maybe. I've got the church bulletin to put together for our three church for the weeks of the 8th & 15th. I have to upload the 8th's on Friday because of the holiday & I'm not sure if I will have enough time to get the other one in. I'll just have to play it by ear. How's your leg coming along with all the PT you've been doing?
Hi Pam. It sure does feel like the time is flying by. I wish the summers lasted as long as the winters around here. It just seems like once Labor Day hits, that's the end of it. Well, it will be for me in Canada anyway. How's LM's foot coming?
Connie, don't fool around with a sinus infection if that's what you've got. Those things can be pretty nasty and generally don't get any better on their own. You'll probably need an antibiotic, so don't wait! Glad you had such a wonderful time on your trip. I'm not so sure I would like the tubing adventure, but the biking in Key West sounds great.
Carol, Edie did a brisket in the slow cooker when we were in Canada and it turned out great! It just needed to be cut thin to be really tender. I'll have to see if I can pick one up when I go to Wegman's. After St. Patrick's Day, our store here doesn't carry them for whatever reason. Yep, go while you can, who knows how much longer before we will be staying home more than we would like to. You are such a good friend to Bev. She's so lucky to have you.
Margaret, I haven't made limoncello pasta in a long time. Joe & I like it, but Mom didn't, so I just quit making it. I'll have to look up that recipe again. Thanks for the suggestion. My basil is coming too, but just quite ready to pick yet. I've got a couple of little tomatoes coming on too. I can't wait! Those ones in the store are a joke!
Speaking of tomatoes, we're having spaghetti & meatballs tonight. It's very cool here, only about 67, with a fairly stiff breeze, so it's a good night for it. We haven't had much rain either & the lawns are beginning to look it. Going to go sit & read for a bit. I hope everyone is enjoying their day.
Barb
Connie, I agree with Barb- get some meds in you!
Pam- glad things are going well with the kids and summer vacation!
Carol- yup, the AC worked...I sent you an email about it..
Ann says hello- she'll be back with us again soon...
Here's the recipe:
Yields: 4 servings
Place a large pot of salted water over high heat and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add the pasta and cook according to package directions. Drain and reserve the pasta in the cooking pot.
While the pasta is cooking, combine garlic, cream, limoncello and lemon peel over medium-high heat in a medium-size saucepot. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.
To the pot with the reserved pasta, add the sauce, the basil and a couple handfuls of Parmigiano Reggiano. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and toss to combine.
To serve, top each portion with additional Parmigiano-Reggiano and some lemon zest.
Now, my changes:
We used regular Dreamfields spaghetti, but might try a rotini or penne next time- especially if we plan to serve it as a side dish, or a buffet dish.
Taste the sauce as you go...add more Limoncello, or garlic or whatever it needs. It is a lovely summery tasting dish!
Serve with a dryish white wine.
Back later..
Hi Barb!
LM's foot is doing great! He is still doing his PT. He has to do it 2 times a day. He is getting ready to start football. He was not able to play baseball this year. He is very excited to get back into sports. We had to buy him new cleats because his heel actually touches the ground now!
Good morning! May I?
I hope you have good plans for the day- and decent weather for those plans!
We have our annual luncheon today for our retired teachers group- I'm hoping the rain holds off...
Our limoncello pasta was terrific last night- and very easy...if you like that combination of flavors, do try it!
I'll be back later- do have a great day!
OMG another gorgeous day! I could handle this weather for a very long time.
Margaret, thanks for reposting the limoncello recipe. We had pasta once this week (I could eat it more than that actually, but...) so I'll wait for a bit to fix it again. It's suppose to be hot toward the end of the week. I'm definately not looking forward to that! I sure wish we would get some rain here. It's very dry. Lots of wind today, so I'll water after dinner. I'm sure you had a wonderful time with your retired teachers' group.
Pam, it's wonderful that LM is doing so well. I can't believe he'll be playing football soon. It must have been exciting to buy him some new cleats. He must be lovin' it!!! Michelle's kids are into soccer for the next couple of months. Some of the games are an hour away. That's nuts!!!
I worked out back this afternoon. I weeded, Preened, & put down a lot of peat moss & right now my back is really screaming at me. I made the mistake of not taking an Aleve before going out. Came in & took one about mid-point. I can see the heating pad in my future tonight. Makes me so mad! I used to be able to work outside all day long, get dinner on the table & kids ready for bed. Just because I'm a couple of years older, this is what I get???? Oh well. I'm just glad I'm still able to do it. I'm not sure if Joe's going to be home for dinner, but I'm going to do up some fish anyway. I may just put it on the GF. Broccoli's going to be on the side. I need to do something about this camp fat!
Lots of loving thoughts & healing prayers to you, Janie. I hope things are better for you today. Have a wonderful, relaxing evening everbody. Talk with you all tomorrow.
Doesn't it always amaze you, how it can be a drought in one area and flooding out in another, never seems to get organized right, lol. Weather gods need to reboot themselves!!
Barb, you are something else, all the things you get done, sorry your back hurts so badly though. "These Happy Golden Years" comes to mind, my dh wants to punch out whomever thought that up!!
Margaret, so now I understand why your hubby has those meetings, sorry if I appeared "nosy"............
Connie, how are your feeling?
Pam, good thing you can buy cleats and stuff for your son, I remember when our youngest played football.
Hoping Janie is feeling better, maybe she has another doctor appt. this week, too.
My dh is still sore, those metal staples they put in his scalp is what's bugging him, painful stuff, more than what he expected. Next week he has the side of his face done, hopefully they won't use metal on that area. We have a Beach Boys 50th. Anniversary concert to go to on the 15th. of July, for one thing ;).
Take care, gang.
Doris
Good way-too-early morning! May I?
Another one of those "here I am wide awake and it's 2:00 AM" mornings...think I'll need a nap later!
Doris- so sorry your dh is still so uncomfortable...can they give him something to ease the pain? Maybe even an ice pack applied would help...hope the next procedure isn't so painful for him! The Beach Boys just played here to a full house and great reviews! You're in for a treat! ( And I don't think you were nosy at all, my dear!)
I am going to have laser gum surgery on Friday, and it's the first of two long sessions...one side of the mouth at a time...the problem ( one of several) is that apparently I won't be able to eat anything other than liquids or things like smoothies for a week or so... then soft, mushy type food for a bit and I have very little idea as to how to manage. ( I'm such a big baby) Then, assuming I get through this OK, I have the other side done in mid July...with another recuperation period...if I were not doing l/c, I'd eat mashed potatoes and ice cream and call it a day...but... I think I can Ninja up some canned soups, and make them doable, but I'm really kind of stumped...the thing that is particularly annoying is that I had no idea that this was a problem- my DDS had never suggested anything was wrong- until now I need this....if I had known as the problem was building, I could have addressed it sooner...now it's major, very $$$ ( VERY!) and looks to be a real nuisance!
Pity party is now over....thanks for your kind attention.
Off to PT this morning, then to the market to get some l/c smoothie fixings...otherwise a rather quiet day ( I hope!)
Waving and sending hugs to you all...special hugs going out to Janie, Blair, Doris' dh and everyone else who needs a good hug right about now!
Have a great day, friends!
Good morning folks. It's going to be a day filled with errand running for me. I just realized that we will be leaving for the cottage on Friday for the entire week! AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! I just got back from vacation and need a vacation from that, and now I'm heading off for another vacation???? I know, I shouldn't complain about such a terrible problem.
Still feeling a bit of the sinus infection. Not bad enough to warrant a trip to the doctor, but just enough that I don't really feel like myself.
M.- Sorry to hear about the upcoming gum surgery. I've got a Magic Bullet and love it for smoothies.
Keeping all of you in my thoughts as I get started on the day!
Good morning ~
And another beautimus () day here today, but it's going to start heating up. By Friday, it's suppose to get to 91! I'll have to look up some cool recipes for dinner for the next few days.
Doris, I had the heating pad on all evening last night & took some more Aleve. My back is sore, but at least it's not aching like it was yesterday. I agree about the different types of weather we get. For as much as I complain at times, I'm glad I live where I do. At least we don't have to worry about those horrific wildfires or flooding. I spoke with my friend in Spring Hill, FL the day before yesterday. She's about an hour west of Tampa & she said that at that point all they were getting from Debby was lots of rain, but thankfully no flooding for them. Gosh, I'm sorry to hear about your dh. I missed what had happened, but hope he's going to be well enough for the Beach Boys concert. I'll bet that will be good.
Wow! I guess it was a waaaayyyyy too early morning for you Margaret. If I were you, I won't worry about the l/c thing after your surgery. If you're only going to be doing liquid & smoothies for awhile, you'll probably be dropping lots of lbs. anyway. My GF had that done too & she said, it's painless. Hope you can get that nap in today.
Vacation, vacation, vacation. Hey, Connie, didn't you know that summer is all about vacation & the more you can get the better!!! I was going back up to Canada next week, but looks like I won't be able to make it. I've got a bulletin to do & I don't want to stick someone else with it. The lake will still be there, so I'll just wait & go another time. I hope you have a good week at the cottage. I still think you should go to the dr. for that sinus infection. Get rid of it before you go to the cottage.
We've got a staff meeting this afternoon . I really hate those things. They seem to be such a waste of time & there's things I wanted to do this afternoon. I hope it doesn't last too long. It's going to be chicken salad tonight for dinner. I'm not sure what else. What else do you serve with chicken salad anyway? Better get to it. Enjoy this beautiful day!
Connie - glad you're heading back to your cottage so soon...don't lose the vacation momentum! How are you enjoying the I-pad?
Barb- hope the meeting is short and sweet- and thanks for the good report from your friend- I don't know wht this has me so goofy..sorry your other vacation plans are on hold for the time being..
Doing burgers on the grill tonight- easy and good!
PT went well this morning- will see when I'll schedule for next week...
Took a bunch of my favorite appetizer recipes in for my therapist- she's a great gal- has two little kids...
Back later...waving!
