    Good morning friends.

We have a bbq today for our friends son who graduated High School. I'm bringing potato salad and buffalo wings. I know lobster is on the menu there so we're looking forward to it.

    Mornin' all.

Enjoy the BBQ - sounds like fun.

I have no idea yet what we'll eat.  We're headed into town in a few minutes and will grocery shop while there.  Hubby will be there this morning, so who knows what we'll come home withWink

    Have a great day,

    Tasty

Just read the posts from last night.

Marlene, thanks for the explanation of "hog wings" - have never seen them here, I'll have to have a look and see if they're around.

Lori, last night we just had the roast beef cold, with baked potatoes and green beans.  Simple and quick.  Whatever was left I wrapped up and put in the freezer - will make a great soup come the fallYes

Elza, I can relate to that extra busy 4th of July week.  We always used to be like that  the Friday after school broke up and just days before our Canada Day w/e so that would have been yesterday too. Hopefully you're not working today.  When does hubby start his new job?  I wish him lots of luck.  Hope the house will sell quickly for you so you are not apart for too long Wink

    Good morning Cookin' friends.

It's a beautiful morning.  The sun is out and not a cloud to be seen.  We should be up into the low 90's today.

This weekend are the big boat races in town.  We can not get near the water, so no boating for us.

Nancy have fun at the graduation bar-b-q.

Elza, hope you can finish up your cleaning this weekend and get the house up for sale soon.  I have this good feeling that it's going to go quickly once on the market.

Marlene, you're right --it's always something--washing, cleaning, cooking--no wonder we go back to work tired on Mondays!  During the school year I feel I work like a dog to do on the weekends what I couldn't do during the work week with the addition of school work.  No fun!  How big of a place do you have to mow?  DH is mowing tomorrow and Lordy, is the grass tall from all the rain we had.  We have a push mower, but right about now, wish it was a riding!

Tasty, the leftover roast will make a delish soup.  Enjoy shopping today.

After a few cups of coffee, I'll be headed over to the Amish farm market and BJ's.  This afternoon, DH wants to go to Bass Pro for a free gun/hunting class.  I will tag along since ithere are other stores in the same complex, and see if I can find anything I like.  I want to pick up a few outfits before we leave to K.C., but so far haven't seen anything that I'm lovin'.

I was planning on leftover quiche, meatloaf, and mashed potatoes for dinner today.  However, when DH came home last night, he must have had an active tape worm.  This morning I found nothing but empty dishes sitting in the sink.  Ugh!  Think dinner out will be in the plans unless I see something at BJ's that we can just heat up after being out today.

Waving hello to all those that stop by and wishing all a wonderful day.

Nancy, that bbq sounds like a good time. I've never had lobster at a bbq -- do they cook it on the grill?

Lori, I like your feeling! I really hope the house sells quickly too but I don't want to have unrealistic expectations either. It's in God's hands and He can handle it.

LOL at your DH eating everything in the house! Hope you find something yummy while you're out today.

Tasty, I know you know what those holidays are like. The day after a holiday is always crazy too -- love those days off but you pay for them when you get back! I am off today and I'm very happy about that. I made a list last night so I need to get busy.

Marlene, hope you get a few minutes today to relax. You are one of the busiest people I know!

Have a great Saturday -- we're trying to stay cool today.

Lori it takes me 2 hrs on a zero radius rider mower for which I am so thankful for! I have a self propelled push mower but needs to have a look at. Bought it new and used very little and I can not get it to start. I like to use on east side of house saves the trimming.

DH is off to trapshoot again. Would be nice to have time to do these things you want to do!!

    LOL

Elza, I don't know how they're going to cook the lobster. All I know is my friend took lobster orders for everyone who is coming to the party. This is their only child. I believe they're expecting 45 people.

I'm already sweating. I steamed the wings and the usually I would bake them at a high temp so they come out nice-n-crispy. Due to the heat I will grill them today.

The BLT dip was a hit last night so I might bring that again to the bbq.

Good morning friends. Happy Saturday to you! I am home with one grumpy kid! Wow. Oldest DS is off painting a deck for his job and DH took middle DS to the church to work on fixing the lights in the outdoor cross. I have youngest DS and he apparently woke up on the wrong side of the bed! Confused Think I'll make him do a few extra chores to counteract this mood!

Dinner tonight is salsa verde chicken tacos. I'm making some homemade salsa for chips in a few minutes. We also have a graduation party to go to today, but it is at 2:00 so we will be home for dinner. Friends of ours hired the boys to take care of their livestock and chores this weekend, so will do that tonight and before church tomorrow. Should be interesting, as my boys are definitely city kids. Wink They aren't afraid of a little work though, which is good. Marlene, I'd have them come help you mow today!

The party last night was fun. It was still light when it ended- that was strange. lol The hostess had a raspberry chipotle sauce on brie that was served with crackers- it was yummy!

Friends of my kids were in a car accident last night. No injuries, thank God, but a scary thing. She ran a stop sign and was hit by another car. Just not paying enough attention I guess- no other factors in the accident.

Enough rambling. I hope you all have a fantastic day. Lori, too bad about not being able to get out on the water. Elza, enjoy the weekend off. Nancy, have fun at the party. Wow, I need to be in your circle of friends- lobster at a grad party! Yum! Your wings and dip sound good too. (And more what I think of as party food! lol) Waving a hello to all.

Heather, if you read this- we are thinking of you and hoping all is well with the baby!

    Blessings, Ellie

I'd rather have a root canal than deal w/ cranky kids lol. I hope the extra chores will make him snap out of it.

Ellie, Have you heard from Heather? Wasn't she due this month? I've been thinking of her and wondered what she had. Heather let us know.

I asked my friend how many people are having lobster and she said 20. The lobsters are being delivered. My wings are cooked. I just have warm them up and add the buffalo sauce. I also made a nice side tray of celery, carrots and ranch dip.

    Hello,

We are leaving in a few minutes for Durango. I think it will be a couple of hours to get there, but I'm sure we will sight see on the way. We will be going through Silverton. We have been there before, but I don't remember much of anything. I'm sure we'll eat lunch and probably won't want any dinner. DH got up and made us some pancakes for breakfast.

Ellie, I hope DS's mood improves. Some extra work just might improve his attitude. Good luck!

Everyone have fun at the parties you are attending.

Where's Helen? She usually posts earlier than this. Hope all is well.

Elza, do you have a list of "honey-do's" for DH now that he's off for a bit?

We read on facebook that Steve & Gwen can go back home today. They are happy, of course, but more so because they have to pack for a trip. They will be traveling to North Carolina (I think) for 3 weeks, and all the clothes they had were shorts and shirts.

Must run, DH is ready to go. Have a great Saturday friends!

You know, I've never done that. He has his own list of stuff he knows needs to be done, so I pretty much leave that alone. Although -- he will certainly have more time to work down that list now! Wink

Not going to get everything knocked off our list today, but still, making progress.

Good Saturday afternoon my fair ladiesBig Smile(and any gents reading this).

Nancy, have a great time enjoying the lobster at the grad party todayStick out tongue. Oh la la, sounds fun! Your day in the city sounds fun too, so glad you got to do that!Yes

tasty, enjoy your Canada day weekend. I agree about those leftovers making a good soup, yum.

Lori, glad the storm passed you and Helen by finally!  I can imagine everything was just water logged with all that rainStorm. Don't know why I thought it was a hurricane instead of a tropical storm or whatever they called it.  All I know is it was a whole lot of rain according to our news.  Too bad you can’t get out on the water this weekend.

Elza, I love your attitude about God handling the sale of the house because when all is said and done that is what will happen anyway and hopefully sooner than later my dear.

Ellie, I always want to call you Miss Ellie (from Miss Ellie on Dallas back in the day). Oh my goodness....I am glad your friends were ok after that accident, super scary. Gotta tell you what happened Thursday:
I pulled out of the gas station after filling up my tank since the gas had dropped 5 cents over night and I was down to 1/2 tank which I don't like to get to.   I am not impatient at all but it was taking forever to get out and I had an appointment and I of course must be on time, that is just me.   Anyway I was so intent on getting out all the while checking to make sure the light was still green at the corner however when I got my chance I must have been looking left a little longer than I thought and I had to hit the gas because there was no let up behind that car.  I went blasting right through a red light at a busy intersection (the station is on the intersection). Thank God nothing was coming because it was RED from the second I went into the intersection and I could do nothing but continue at that point.  I wish there was a camera that caught the look on my face.  I feel so, so lucky I did not get T-boned or get a ticket since the cops usually sit backed in at the 7/11 kitty corner from it just waiting. It was rush hour and everyone is always speeding home as fast as they can. That is the last time I use the last driveway at the corner at that station so help me!!!   Long story I know, but it scared the you know what out of me and I feel blessed for it to end up the way it did with no one hurt!

Tammy, belated CakeHappy BirthdayGift Blessing to your 9 year old DGD. I hope she had a lovely day. I was praying for Steve & Gwen and so happy to hear they faired well through those awful  fires and so did their home! My best friend growing up was named Gwen so I always smile when I read about them.

I want to try a little recipe I got from a coupon add from one of our throw away papers that comes each weekend that always has coupons and recipes in it. It just looked so appealing to me.   It is for a new product Heinz Home Style Beans called brown sugar & bacon beans. The recipe is called “Fiesta Bean and Cheese Dip”.
I got all the ingred. so will have to taste test it of course before taking to my Nephew’s annual BBQ and pool party.
To be honest, I am a tad nervous about leaving the house this 4th because of my situation next door (perfect day to burn me if you know what I mean.....and yes IT IS that serious!).

When the kids were growing up I used to make my homemade  baked beans then I would boil hot dogs then cut them in half and place two (4 halfs) on top of slices of white bread I lined up on a big cookie sheet, then I would ladle the baked beans over top and sprinkle grated (I grated it, don't like the bagged) sharp cheddar cheese over that and some sliced green onion and bake in the oven until the cheese melts and the edges of the bread toast nicely. Oh my goodness I love that and these beans look like that minus the wieners and bread. Time will tell if it’s a good recipe, hope so because its easy enough.

I went to K-Mart yesterday which I do about once a year or so usually in spring or summer for some reason just to get away from here and I managed to get two pairs of the kind of flip flops I like on sale and a pink T-shirt top since I dropped some of my FF Fudgsicle on the other one that matches some pink shorts I love and can not get out the stain. I also got two cute Maxi dresses with spaghetti straps on sale as well. I love those in the summer, so cool and comfy.

Looks like we will get a nice warm 4th at the rate we are going. I have had all the overhead fans on and don’t want to open the windows or slider until later to let in the sea breeze we get in the afternoon. I need to make a run to Target here in a few minutes for some essentials, i.e. dishwasher pods(frist time buying them, lol)  paper plates, etc. I love Target!

I hope we hear from Heather about the baby, wonder if it’s here yet?

Betsy, I miss you girl! You too June. Hope all is well at Helen's as I usually always see her posts before I get here each day.

Ok I have blathered enough for one post, Embarrassedlol. Happy weekend friends.

  • Re: SATURDAY: What's Cookin'? 6/30/2012

It is currently 105 and I am in for the day! I ran errands with my youngest sister who is in town doing wedding planning with her dd who just got engaged last week. The wedding is Oct. 27, so there are many things to get done quickly. They found a wedding gown they love, so that is ordered; venue selected and booked, catering lined up, flowers ordered, tent ordered, invitations selected. Still left to do - book a photographer, dj, and a few more things. The minister who is also a family friend is going to marry her. (He also baptized and confirmed her, as well as married my sister and another of my nieces. We used to all live within 3 miles of each other and attend the same church, and he was our pastor for 30 years. Now that we have all moved, only 1 of my sisters still goes to his church). My sister and I went to the venue today and made some decisions about set up location for bar and appetizers. We then went to lunch and several stores looking for plaid fabric in fall colors for accent decorations. It was great to have a half day of bonding one on one time with my wonderful sister. I love, love, love my family!

As you know, I always spend Sunday afternoons with my other sister and Mom. We meet after church and usually go out to lunch and then find something fun to do. With the heat, I said I'd take lunch so we can just stay in. Well, I decided I didn't really want to go back out in the heat, so I'd make something from what I have here. Tomorrow's lunch will be Phillip's crab cakes (I had those in the freezer) and Old Bay Pasta Salad. I don't have all of the veggies I usually put in the pasta salad, but I will use what I have. I am sure it will be delish.

After months of living in a construction zone after the damage done by the toilet overflow, the house is finally finished! The new dry wall, painting, lighting, carpeting, etc. is complete and the cleaning crew spent the entire day here doing a "deep clean." The house is now better than before the flooding - thank you, State Farm!
