    WELCOME TO THE PCH KITCHEN

Good morning, so good to see you. We hope you'll find the warmth and the friendship here that we have been privileged to enjoy. We have a common bond. We are Physically Challenged Homemakers.

We share affection for one another through compassion, honesty, and most importantly, respect for one another and one another's situations.

We gather here to share information on ways to make our lives easier, to offer support to each other and to share humor and laughter, sometimes tears and always good food.

There is always room in the kitchen for all who would like to join in...So help yourself to a cup of coffee, cocoa, tea or fruit juice. There are always fresh fruit , muffins, coffee cake and cookies....pull up a chair at the old country table and visit awhile.....and remember to tell a friend.

For our old friends that have not been by for awhile, we hope you will drop in and let us know how you are doing.

Hi ladies, hope everyone is doing ok, had checked for the new month but saw nothing. Church today then hot dogs and Chinese salad with pear slices for lunch, very good, bought it as one of those pre packages at Wal Mart the other day. What is everyones plans for the 4th of July, any family celebrations? Kerry and I are going over to the American Legion where they have a big display, taking our chairs and my kitchen step stool so we can get up into the truck bed easier, I am making hamburgers or hot dogs to wrap and keep for eating over there and cold drinks in a cooler. Last year some kids we going around on 4 wheelers selling a few different drinks for a few bucks, so we are going cheaper this year, bought none of their drinks, had ours and some chips, but sat in the truck. Alot of places are cancelling fireworks because of the dry conditions, we shall see by Wed night how all goes. Nancy, Lin and all others who have been a bit scarce, hope you are all doing ok. Nancy I bet you all are wanting some rain as well. I made homemade baked egg rolls last night using lumpia wrappers, crisper than the egg roll wrappers, I have both but chose the lumpia. Well better go, got some ironing to do, my favorite job as you all know *grin* Have a safe and fun 4th of July! Hugs, Connie

    Hi Connie,

Well feeling somewhat better and not quite so weak, still coughing some but not as bad as before so that is good.  Jim is still working in town so far, he will finally get a day off tommorrow or Tues which will be his first day off in two weeks.

Has been hot here today so just staying inside and staying cool with the air on.  No plans for the 4th since Jim will be working and I am dog sitting for our friends.  Have been doing some things at home here but then resting.  Antibiotics kicking my rear!  Hope you guys enjoy your time at the Legion with the fire works.  We don't have them here because of the fire danger, know some of our neighbors will  do small ones for the kids though.  Hope you had a nice weekend.  Hugs, Ann

Will repost Lin's July 1 message that was in June Kitchen.             ~Deery

Hi all, I will try once more and that's the line of no return.lol! Just seemed like a good place to put it...  I logged in this morning and is now after 7 and trying again, it finally got me this far. It is so aggravating.  About to roast, pass the salt and pepper please. This horrible humidity over the past 3 days seems like a bad trip to Florida again; I'm just waiting it out and praying for it to stop. The trails of water running downward makes it seem like I might as well put on a loose cotton gown and sit in front of a fan as stripping off doesn't help at all, just more wet with my body trying to cool itself off.

Hoping everyone is okay in your respective states; this coastal area is more miserable than I've ever seen it. At least I DO have working electric and hopefully have the problem solved of why my A/C would turn on and then off about 3-4 minutes later. Think it was overheating from the filter needing a scrubbing so that's my next project. I can't remember how long ago it was cleaned, but was quite pleased to see how much dust didn't get in the livingroom. I have more than enough of that stuff already laying around, so if anyone needs some let me know.

I haven't forgotten about the hermit recipe Ann, but my favorite one was always from Betty Crocker, the one made with coffee. But that's not the one my DGD and I used to sell. It was very deepest dark brown and got more moist and delicious as a week went by. And the enticing spicy aroma from it too; my best customers of those were men. They grabbed them up and asked her when I'd have more baked. I have so many loose recipes I just haven't found it yet but will keep looking since I want to make that recipe next. I have about a dozen of them collected to work with if it is gone forever to the lost socks kingdom.

Take care - will check back when I can. You all have a great week and stay hydrated and rested.

Hi Connie, Hope you and Kerry enjoy safe fireworks. Taking your eats sounds like a good way to go.

Ann, Hope your getting better continues until you are fully recovered.

Mary, hope your heat will ease some.

Lin, good to see your post. Sounds so frustrating trying to get into the Kitchen.

I had a very enjoyable weekend. Weather was heavy overcast with rain on and off. But Saturday evening was dry and sun was able to peek thur at times. Wedding was at 4:30 pm Saturday. 3 hours away in Washington State. We got hotel rooms so we could dress in our wedding wear. 300 people invited so it was crowded. Stand in line to get into HS gym. Family members of bride and groom sat on chairs on gym floor and others sat in stands. After wedding off to the reception in a conference room in business center short ways out of town. Groom is a crop farmer so bride and groom arrived in his big enclosed tractor. Saw  my 2 younger brothers and sister and their children and grandchildren. Saw many cousins. Had not seen my Washington family in 2 years. And a prayer was answered. My cousin first wife had a stroke a few years ago and has been in a care home. Her second husband divorced her because he said she couldn't be a wife. She has been very bitter since then. She had always had a lovely sweet face and nice smile. She was hardly recongnizeable when I saw her. I have been praying for her and have wanted to talk to her so badly. I didn't know if she could get out of care home for special occasions or not. Her daughter who is my daughters age brought her mother. It was so good to see that she could get out. She is wheelchair bound. It is hard to get around in crowds so I didn't expect to talk to her. I just felt so happy that she was there. My Mom and cousin  that was sitting by us heard that she was going to leave and went down to other end of table to talk to her. They had mentioned earlier that she didn't seem to know who they were. When they came back to sit down they said she was leaving so I should go see her if I wanted to. It felt like God had opened the door so I started out. DD didn't think I could make it thru the chairs but she started to push me in wheel chair. I bumped a few people in chairs but we made it thru and I got to talk to her. She knew my name and who I was. She was 4 classes below me in school. I said I was so glad to see her getting out. My Mom had said that whenever she went to visit all she did was cry. But she was okay that night. She said she had lost her faith. I tried to encourage her to stay possitive. And look for the possitive things in her life. I told her how I had the Kitchen group since 2004 and how important is was to have others to talk to. She does have her local friends and family. I hope she will try to change her attitude and put her bitterness behind her. I am so thankful I got to talk to her.

We stayed at the Guest House Inn. They have a free breakfast. We stopped at a grocery so my DD could get some fresh flowers to put on my Fathers grave. Then straight home. DD/SIL have a dinner dance to go to tonight for his work department. A company celebration for the workers compleating a project.

My throat gets froggy at times from the cold damp weather. Hope we will get some sunshine during the week.

    Wishing All a good week.

    Hugs, Deery

Wowwww, Deery what a wonderful outing you must have had and such a good time to especially see family and friends after such a long time. What memories you have brought home with you. You know Deery, we don't see our children or family often at all either as you know, so when we do see them, we cherish the time we have and those memories get us through many a lonely time don't they. The wife that was put in the nursing home and divorced because she could not be a wife, it is sad, you know the part for better or worse, in sickness and in health, I wonder what meaning it has for so many. My sister Donna was put in a nursing home about 4 years before her death, she was falling alot and hurting herself badly several times, but my BIL said he was not able to care for her, so into the nursing home she went. At first she did not want to go, and her door stayed closed for a long while, and then the nurses or aides started taking her to watching some entertainment, such as singers and she enjoyed it so much. My sister Donna was a kind person too, and I guess many of the aides would talk to her almost as if she was a Mom of theirs. Now my BIL talks about how much he misses her, how lonely he is, and I know I should not be bitter, but............ I am so glad you were able to see so many though, how cute for bride and groom to arrive in the tractor! Was it by chance a big green tractor, makes me think of that country song. Ann do take care working like you do so you do not relapse gal. Lin what has happened to your beautiful cool mountain home, the awful heat is pounding at your door as well is it? Many days it is just cooler to walk around in my loose gown then get into body hugging clothes. I went out after church today and mowed a bit after weed eating some yesterday, bad thing to do, all that dry dust and crud blowing in the air and into the lungs. Coughing woke me up from a nap late in the afternoon. A couple of friends came over this evening and brought some figs she had canned yesterday so looks like Kerry is wanting some biscuits or yeast rolls made to go with. *grin* Deery send me some cold damp weather and I will gladly send you gals up there some sunshine. This site was a booger bear to get a post done today, would not let me for a while and I kept trying and trying, hope everyone has a good week. Lin I will keep looking for your loose recipes *smile* I know that is what you sent me a few Christmas's ago, that Tired Mothers Cake, still floating around my house as well on that little blue slip of paper. Night ladies, sleep well, hugs, Connie

Deery: that's so nice to see people when you haven't seen them for years. I like to see family members from my childhood, and what they are like today.

I do believe the fireworks have been called-off because of the dryness. We aren't supposed to get rain for at least 10 more days or more (maybe they will have predicted wrong!Wink

Glad that you are all here to talk with! Remember to think "the glass is half full, not half empty!" Give a smile, even if you don't get one back!

Hello ladies, just stopping by to wish you all a safe holiday 4th of July tomorrow. Some of you have been watching the Delcorah eagles, or were watching them, but not sure if you heard that D12 has died.

"D12 was found at the base of a power pole having been electrocuted. The power company has made alterations to that pole and others nearby."

Just wanted to pass the word along in case you had not heard. Take care, Connie

  • Re: PCH Kitchen July 2012

Glad to say Hi to everyone today. It's hot here, and very dry, so fireworks are being set off downtown off a parking garage because anywhere that has grass, is not good now.  I heard people setting off fireworks outside last night, and we live in a mobile home, so fire hazard is even worse! A place in town, around, was set on fire because of sparks from fireworks. I know many little kids look forward to setting off fireworks, but "things happen".

    Happy 4th of July everyone!!

Connie sorry to hear about D12, makes me sad as I have been watching them since they have been born. :(  Hope You and Kerry have a nice holiday!!

Nancy, glad to see you peek in. :)  Have a nice holiday!

Mary, yes you have to be very careful about fireworks.  Did you see on the news how a whole bunch of people got hurt because fireworks went off in a house.  Children injured as well.  So sad.  Fire season is no joke, if anyone needs proof of that look at Colorado.

Deery, how are you doing?  Doing anything fun there today?  Hope it doesn't get to hot for you.

Well just relaxing now after I got things taken care of in the house and the garage vacumed and cleaned counters and the patio.  We have carpeting in part of our garage in our sitting area.  Been strange weather, was cloudy and cooler for a few days and now it's hotter than blazes!  Jim is still home, he was gone overnight last week on a fire that spread quickly but is getting smaller.  They are in a draw down in California because we are so limited in resources so he may be home for a bit, we will see.  Not doing anything today, Jim is working so just doing chores and then relaxing.  Gonna fix BBQ chicken for dinner with coleslaw and maybe some zuchini patties.  We will see.  Hope everyone has a nice holiday.  Hugs, Ann

Last night kids/teens were shooting fireworks in this trailer park- I wish they had more "sense" about everyone else involved- all it takes is one little "spark" and mobile homes really go "up" from fire. Parents of those kids should really be more involved in what their kids do- it seems like at that age, they make "silly" mistakes too often. I heard fire trucks around here, so I'm sure it was fireworks stuff. It was around 11:00 that they finally stopped firecrackers and loud "booms". I'm surprised the police didn't come.

Back to physical therapy today. I don't know how long I need to go to the building- if I could just get the amount of exercises to do at home, that would be good. I do the stretching every day, at home, so maybe I can just get the exercises and do them at home.

Hi Gals, summer has arrived in the NW. Sunshine expected for over a week. Think I will have lunch on the back deck. I like the new salad spinner I ordered. Better then putting on towel to dry some. It is the push down on pump kind. I ordered Country Woman Magazine. I can look thru it and give it to DD to see if she likes it. It has recipes and crafts. DD and DGD both like crafts. Days felt mixed up this morning. Felt like beginning of week but feels like Thursday now.

    Wishing All a Good Day.

    Hugs, Deery

G'day everyone, hope your 4th was fun and lit up with pretties, safely. Our outing was fun, not as nice as prior years but good to get out. Had a dip in the pool before going and then again after coming home, humid, humid. My SIL, Don's wife and said Don is back in the hospital but to go home later this PM, he had another stroke and affected his speech, Lebanon hospital did not diagnos it and he got worse and they took him to Springfiedl where CT scan showed stroke. I shake my head and think what all he has gone through from that medicine and hear that the pharmacutical has settled and that Don's is in negotiation, 5 years has been a long time for a active vibrant man to a man who can mostly only sit now, no sight. Please keep him in your prayers. Dee and I have been passing the throne routine back and forth long distance. Deery glad that summer has finally greeted the PNW, enjoy your outings on your deck now. Have a good week. Hugs, Connie
