Good morning friends.
We've been watching the Olympics on and off.
Tonight I'm going to put a eye of round on the rotisserie.
Marlene, Loved your place in Canada. Looks so peaceful.
All the best to you my friends.
Nancy
Good morning.
I have been busy that past two days and could not find a minute to visit.
We are grilling ribs today. Hash brown casserole and beans for sides. Everyone is going to be here plus the kids bf and gf. I am going to have to come up with a few more sides.
Nancy, your posts are always so upbeat and friendly. You are a real sweetie.
Have a great day.
Good morning friends. We had a nice day Saturday- DH was home for most of the day. We watched the Olympics while doing some chores, playing games, and fixing food to eat. Heading up to church early in the morning and then to in-laws for brunch. Home later to watch more Olympics. DS #1 was in charge of making dinner and decided on fish and chips, so Sunday night will be the gyro burgers. I picked up a really nice watermelon and that just hits the spot on a hot day, doesn't it?
Nancy, thanks for starting us off, and I agree with Betsy that you are a ray of sunshine to us. Betsy, glad to see you. All set for school again? I've been in my schoolroom tallying up school supplies to see if I need anything more while the good deals are on. We got the computer set up in youngest DS's room which will help with schooling this year. Tasty, you just HAD to mention that my jam might not set, didn't you?? I think I'll open a small jar and see how thin it really is before deciding to open them all and try again. I have had trouble with Sure-Jell for a couple of years now which is too bad because that was my pectin of choice for many years. What do y'all use?
Gotta run and get the house to bed. Sunday mornings come early! Have a fabulous day!
Blessings, Ellie
Mornin' all
Oh Ellie, I didn't mean to infer that your jam didn't set I had troubl with my strawberry jam this year and ended up using pectin but altho' it's still quite good, it's not as "full of summer flavour" as that which I did by cooking for longer.
Have a fun time with all your family around Betsy. Sounds like fun to me. I grew up as an only child and had an only child so we never have had that "housseful of people" feeling that comes with a larger family - something I would have loved (I think)
Ellie, your days are always so busy - do you ever get time to relax?
You too, Nancy - you always seem to be on the go, doing something fun with the girls. Dinner sounds good
I haven't decided yet what to make for us today. I'd like to use up everything in the little freezer over the fridge so that might mean burgers or some leftover ham done with a pasta (fresh tomato and cream cheese ) sauce or maybe a stirfry.
Last night we had local corn for the first time this year- so, so sweet and tender. I find the easiest way to cook it is in a glass dish in the microwave with just a tiny bit of water, covered, for about 3 - 4 minutes. I've never had it not turn out well and that's how I've done it for probably the last 20 years
Hope everyone gets their Olympic fix , whether that's a lot of TV or just the occassional update. I think I'm settling for the nightly update that we get (a 4 hour show of the day's highlights) rather than watching all day during summer. Of course, if we were to have a wet day, it might be a different story
Enjoy your day, however you choose to spend it,
Tasty
Good Morning Cooks,
Hubby is in his glory watching every minute of the Olympics. He actually watches until he nods off. Too sweet. Meanwhile, I read and catch up on the computer.
Tonite we're having chicken and noodles and a salad. Looking forward to that.
Hope it's a beautiful Sunday in your neighborhood.
Good morning everyone. Wishing you a beautiful day.
After tossing and turning what seemed like all night, I got up at 6:30. Wanted to let DH sleep, so I went downstairs and did a load of laundry. Just as I was finishing up, in came DH with a cup of coffee.
He was hungry, I wasn't, so we went down for breakfast. While DH ate, I had a glass of OJ and another coffee. I didn't want to eat since we will be meeting the kids this morning for brunch around 11am. I just could eat now and a few hours later, but that's no problem for DH.
I guess after brunch, before we head back to their place, the kids want to stop at Trader Joe's. Right now there are no plans for later in the afternoon or evening, but I'm sure we'll be doing something.
Need to shower and get ready to go. Talk to you later.
Lori
Sounds like you are having a good time in KC Lori. So glad you could go see them. It is to get warmer again. Was lightening in the south but none here. We had 10 minutes of rain Thursday night and that was it.
Have laundry all done and I think his things put away! He has things on deepfreeze to take to his little camper so will be glad when that disappears too. Don't like to have things laying around.
Well need to make a blackberry pie. Made one and took to work had 2 apples in it and few blueberries and they loved it. I bought a pack of red raspberries to put in this one. Guy brought me a bag of blackberries so will mix the two. They are spoiled.
Have a good day.
Marlene
Good Morning,
Glad to hear everyone is having a good weekend. We are headed out in a few minutes to go and see the cavern.
Sorry you did not sleep well Lori. On the other hand, I slept like a log and did not want to get up this morning. At least you accomplished something worthwhile! We got all our laundry caught up lastnight, too.
We are hoping to pick up some briskets on sale over the Labor Day week, so I need to start making room in our freezer also. When we are in Nacogdoches, we hope to get them cooked, as that is where DH's large smoker is. We can kkep them in the freezer and use them, or deliver them to people as we travel. Also DH has had some Houston friends call him and want him to cook some briskets for them when we are back in the area. We also will need a couple of them to take up to Colorado Springs when we go back there in October.
We are going to grab something to eat on our way to the cavern, so not sure about any dinner plans-I really need to stop by the store.
Have a nice Sunday.
Tammy
We got to go out for dinner again this Sunday -- DH has taught the senior adult SS class at our church for about 15 years and this was his last Sunday to teach, so the class took us out to eat.
Tomorrow morning I'll need to call the bank and check on my schedule. I have two calendars here at home and I realized yesterday that on one of them I have my work hours listed as 9:30 to 4:00, but the other ones says 11:00 to 6:30. Need to find out which one is right!
Pork Roast and Sauerkraut in the Crockpot
Good Sunday afternoon friends!
Just got home from getting pedi’s with DD. She was ready to get out of the house for a bit. Then she wanted to stop at a newer store in town called Charming Charlies. If you have one in your area, check it out. It has the cutest accessories that you can imagine. I got a purse case for my contact stuff, some new sunglasses, a toe ring and a couple of other rings. Love that store.
Well, got bad news yesterday. The fill-in Dr. quit. My boss was supposed to have surgery on his shoulder Wednesday but had to postpone it and he is coming back to work tomorrow. Just don’t know how that is going to go. I am really really disappointed in the young man, but he got to listening to others and they convinced him he wasn’t making enough money even though he named his price. I was raised to honor your commitments no matter what. Could be an interesting week.
DH is napping in the recliner and I am getting ready to go in the kitchen to “play”. I tried quinoa for the first time last week and absolutely loved it! So, there is another recipe that has squash and tomatoes in it, sounds perfect to take for lunch this week. Then, I have a couple of tomatoes that need to be used and a recipe for a tomato tart that looks delish. I found it in a little TOH tomato book.
Oh, I stopped at the grocery store in town and just was walking by the meat case. Found pork loin roast for $1 per pound. I couldn’t believe my eyes. There was a limit of 2 per person, so they were in my cart. I will stop on my way home tomorrow and pick up a couple more.
Tammy, we love smoked brisket. That may be one the menu next weekend, or as soon as we get a break from this crazy heat.
Better get busy. Want to finish up my stuff so I can relax and read and watch the Olympics later.
